well i'll be out there but the bad part is without the race car. i feel like an asshole for not getting it done but paying customer stuff comes first so i haven't had much time to mess with it.

might take the 34 out there just to have something fun to cruise around in.

see you at elmo this weekend lucky

My son and I are countin' the minutes. We'll be there on the 7th but in a 62 Bel Air instead of the roadster. See you all there.

I can`t stand it....25 years since my first trip, and I thnk I have only missed 3 or 4 years since `84. Will be tagging along with GIR 431 this year since the Sedan has gone to Ohio to live...will be a very low budget week this year. Have to try and save money to put into the Race Car for next year.....I wish we were leaving this minute!!

If I make it I'll be hanging out with the Old Buzzards and the Parts is Parts Race Team #994 red roadster running a flathead driven by Lee Wilbourn of Lee's Metalworks. I'll post a pic of the car if I can find one...

Hey Jeff...if you go you'll find a place to stay...always happens.

  11. i am flying in from new zealand, haven't been since 2001 really looking forward to it. see you all there.

  12. I know I will, im always down to the wire and last minute but usually find something. It would be nice to get a lead or two and secure something, but if not I will be going.

I'm actually in the same boat. I have about 40 friends going so I do have options, but I should have planned ahead better. Still not even sure I can make it if this job opportunity pans out, but for now I'm going....

  14. All the plans are coming together, I am planning to be there on the 7th.

It's on my "bucket list". Money is going to keep me home, but one day before I die I'd love to make the trip. I've been a Speed Week freak since I was young.

We are seriously considering making the drive. I have the vacation time saved.

The big decision is....do we try and make the drive in the non-airconditioned 48 chevy or wuss out and drive something modern.

If we take the 48, we will leave from the street rod nationals and head west.

Yahoo maps says it is 1,757 miles each way from my house.

No question about it, the '48 for sure. You will kick yourself in the butt when you get there if you don't have your '48 there....and trust me, it's a dry heat so if you can stand L'ville in August then B'ville is a walk in the park compared to that.

I wish I had two more vacation days, that Monday and Tuesday, I would also hit the Nationals (for the last time) then head west from there but I can't leave work till 4pm on that Tuesday. I'll see ya there!....in the '48;):D

:D Nebraska isn't a dry heat but B-ville is. Pack some long pants and a jacket for sure because it gets chilly crossing the high country and can be on the Salt in the morning. The '48 part is a no-brainer.

First time trip for me this year.

Crew help on an AA/GL, and an E/STR. Both cars are current record holders. Man there's some high tech stuff going on on them.

Either going out in the transport or flying , don't have plans final yet.

My Dad and I are heading down. Hoping to get there Monday the 10th.

  21. I should be there...but bringing the roadster is looking shakey. The crew I go with was going to take 2 cars- my roadster and another, but the 2 car trailer fell through so the only way to get it down there is to trailer it myself. That'd cost me a fortune in diesel!!! So we'll see, but I should be there regarless.

I am coming in on Friday and I am pretty fucking stoked to say the least. It's my first time out there and I am soaking as much of it up as I possibly can.

Chris, you promised me a ride in that roadster so if you don't bring it expect to be piggy back riding me everywhere. I will jump on your back like a wild PUMA whether you like it or not.

  23. Dude, I'll try to get it there. Trust me, thats pretty much the only reason I wanted to go this year. We'll see how it goes, or if I could get a guy or two to drive down with me and split fuel cost it would be a no brainer.
If not, I'll give you a ride on my back, but be warned it's pretty warm down there and I'll probably be sweating pretty bad!!

For buys going for the first time I have a few tips:

    1) As mentioned the salt is coldish at 6am in the morning so bring appropriate clothing. On the salt I would avoid a black or dark shirt as the sun doesn't let down. Also, the sunrises are beautiful....make sure the camera is close by.

    2) It stays right at the low to mid 90's for the day, but you DO sweat a lot without even knowing it. I drank around 1 1/2 gallons of liquid a day and that was just walking around. And the weirdest thing, you don't notice yourself sweating because it evaporates so quickly in the dry heat and you don't pee very much either. Just make sure to drink plenty of fluids. Pack the ice chests WELL!

    3) Bring sunblock...high SPF and a lot of it! Make sure to put it UNDER your nose, neck, ears, and even up UNDER your shorts. I could let you all suffer like we're supposed to let newbies do, but I still have scars on the back of my calves from not putting enough sunblock on and the burn up under your shorts sucks!!

    4) if you have a car you care about don't bring it on the salt...get a ride. If you DO want to drive it on the salt I suggest that you do what many guys do right before you roll onto the salt...spray the underside thoroughly with either a non stick cooking spray like PAM or WD40. It keeps the salt from caking on and will be a LOT easier to clean afterward. The "Save the Salt" campaign also recommends you go to a carwash after and spray it all off so they can reclaim that salt.

    5) If you can, though it isn't completely necessary, bring a bicycle or moped or some sort of transport so you can get from the pits to the starting line easily without walking miles back and forth in the heat. We had an old whizzer, a beach cruiser and an 80 Honda there and it made all the difference from the year before when we had to hoof it all day long.

    6) Try to stay at or at least know someone who is staying at a place with a pool...you'll be happy you did. The Motel 6 has a pool if I'm remembering correctly...

    7) Lastly, I would NOT tie one on the night before you hit the salt...you'll be miserable and dehydrated and won't make it through the day. I never did this but saw a few guys stumble through the day with a hangover...not a pretty sight.

    See you all there...I hope....

  25. I'll be there, driving my 49 Ford COE again. Been looking forward to it since last Sept!

  26. I'll be heading to Yuba City next week to help get the Viper's BBQ ready to take. We'll be at the Bendover KOA. Of course, I'll make chili. It's what I do. Not sure, but we probably will be hanging with Fergusons... First time to the Salt for me. Pretty excited, I am.

  27. You should go with me! It'll be a cheap fun trip!
