Looking for valve lash caps for a 5/16 stem that are .100 thick. Closest I've been able to get is .080. Anyone know where I can find 'em? Thanks Molly

  2. .020 shim stock cut to fit inside?

Thanks, but doubt it would hold up in this case...

    Never seen any for sale.
    Curious: why?

  5. I meant to say steel shim stock.

Anyway, Ducati 250 and 350 singles had "****el" caps and if the diameter was the right size I think you might be able to find the thickness you want.

Getting back to the steel shim stock bit, perhaps something on the order of .040 shim stock and a .060 valve cap would stay together.

You might give some thought to machining your own caps from drill rod.
Make them a few thousandths thick and after hardening, grind them on the outside surface to get the thickness required.

  6. Y block 292 truck motors with rotaters had caps about that size,,,,just had mine down, but had no reason to measure them. Check the Y block forum, somebody will know.

Thanks for the leads you guys--I found some 8mm/.100 ones at Lunati that may do the trick.

.040 shim stock and a .060 valve cap leaves only .020" of stem inside the cap - it's going to come off.

Comp cams also has them and as stated above no shims period. Thats asking for trouble for sure.

  11. The .060 section is the thickness of the cap.

The body proper may be .250 - .312 long so there'd be plenty of cap depth to be properly retained.
