I got this voltage regulator at a swap meet in eureka, mo last year. I really want to use it on my car, but the connections aren't marked in any way. Can you guys help me out? I've never wired one of these up before. Justin
Send me some pics of the regulator with the cover removed. The size of the windings determines which wire goes where. The regulator coil with the heavy windings needs to get the wire from the armature, and the one with the finer-wire windings will get the wire from the field terminal of the generator. The one with the points held open by the spring is the cutout relay, and the battery hot wire attaches at that coil. Now all you need to determine is whether it's an "A" circuit regulator that grounds the field wire to get full generator output (GM type) or a "B" circuit that applies voltage to the fields (Ford type). A good oldtime generator technician can figure that out quickly, but it's very difficult to explain the multimeter connections without having the unit in front of me. Us oldtime DC charging circuit guys are getting kind of scarce! Jerry
From your instructions I can identify the fine and the heavy windings and I can figure out the three connections from that, but how do i know if its an a or B circuit? It has the numbers 6 9 64 on the bottom of it. probably just mfg. date, but if it will help....
