I like the way you did the back window panel to roof treatment. This is where I've seen a lot of chops go wrong. The way you did it makes for a very smooth transition. Love it!

Great work as always. What could you do with a 51 suburban roof?

  7. One of the best photo essay's of how it's done that I've ever seen. Well done and good enough for publication. Congrats.

yeah thats the way it should be! im not a big fan of ski ramp chops. also i like how u extended the catwalk, alot of people stretch the c pillar so that it meets the stock location and i dont care how that looks either.

Thanks guys for all the kind words. It looks like it was done in a day, but really it has been almost a month. I am just doing it on nights and weekends. And I'm taking my time welding it together so not to build too much heat. I am using a mig and a tig for the job. All the tig welds are hammer welded to get a nice flat seam.

The body is braced with 1/2 in conduit. It's cheap and easy to work with.It seemed to hold the body together pretty good.

Again thanks guys for the motivation. Now time for more welding.

I tried to take some side shots for you guys. I'll get some better ones when the car goes outside.

It's good to see someone use a little restraint, instead of just hammering the shit out of it.

Good work, good proportions, tastefully done!

Nice you retained that round profile. Too many chops look like someone stepped on the back of the roof!

Thank you for posting this! I'm getting ready to cut mine this weekend, got everything marked and ready to cut but after seeing this I will be making some adjustments so you've been a huge help. Thanks!

  19. Looks like those factory advertising sketches that always made them look longer and lower than the real thing. Very nice proportions.....Excelent!

Glad I could help. I did alot of thinking and figuring before the first cut was ever made. I looked at tons of roofs and only a very few had a killer look I was going for. Too many slopers.

Just make sure you plan ahead.

Thanks, I think custom tricks are supposed to make the car look better. Don't do them just to do something. Chopping is about keeping perportions(sp) correct. Too many guys want to cut the hell out of a car for shock value.

I agree! I have done a few of these, and i realy like the way you raised that roof panel to line it up again. Great flow.

I use 1" square tubing for bracing. Again light weight and strong. After each use i just grind off the old welds and store away till next time.

ima gona go against the grain but the more i look at it. it looks great but you think you could of taken it down maybe two inches more. it looks great but if you painted it you probably couldnt tell it was chopped at all.which is probably the look your after. this one could probably be a candidate for a sectioning job. just an opinion

Once you add the glass and the moldings it will shrink the look more. This in my opinion is the perfect lines on these sedans.
