  2. So what time does the old time drags start? Is it running before Motor Speedway starts?

  3. Yet, more info: http://racewaypark.com/schedule/motor_speedway1.aspx

Some misspellings and bad grammer as usual!

    The schedule...

Saturday, Old Time Drags. Gate 4 at 5pm...as usual. Drag racing starts at 5 or 6.... depends on crowd. Racing can go till 10:30 at night if we have people that want to race... not two people, I mean...people. The Nebulas are playing at 6pm next to the drag strip....without costumes. Then will return at dark if full costume. We will also be showing Brian Dawars movie featuring the the sexy and whitty Burbank Choppers, and those bad mofo's...the Alter Boys! Don't let their name fool you. Burbank Sandy is going to wear something sexy he tells me. Can't wait!

If you dig crazy surf music, you will love the Nebulas On Sat night. They are only 25 to 30 years of age and not technically traditional. Buddy holly, Eddie Cochran, Link Wray, were unavailable for some reason...

This Saturday date will be Hot Rod Races!!! 5 pm till 1am. Gates at 5, racing between 5:30 and 6 depending on crowd. We can go till 10:30 at night if people want to race and show up. Movie will go down bout 10:ish...

Sunday July 26th, Old Time Drags. Enter at Gate 4...please if you want this to last. We can do it, but I need your help. 8 am.... to 6pm, maybe a little later if the party is a party!

The Ribeye Brothers are playing! Racing all day, all out stuff, diggers, gassers, 4 bangers, bikes, rails, sk8boards... etc, and HOT RODS!

Tried to upload pics of the Nebulas.... didn't work!

Origins: The Nebulas are the result of a powerful chemical reaction that occurred when elements of a highly-developed west coast guitar sound fused with a thunderous East Coast rhythm section in the early months of 2001. In the fall of 2000, California-based guitarist Mike Dominguez (The Sand Dunes & The Aquatones) packed up his double-digit collection of Fender guitars & amplifiers and headed east to the Ocean State of Rhode Island. It was there that he teamed up with the preliminary members of The Nebulas resulting in "Hot Rods, Waves & Women", a brief 7-song demo (now long out of print and highly sought after) which introduced The Nebulas as a viable component of the 21st century's ever-evolving surf/instro scene. To achieve the optimum live sound, as well as augment future recorded works, the Nebulas recruited Dan-O Ware on the Fender Jaguar guitar as the fourth Nebula.

there were a few opinions of things that could use change after the june motor speedway. it turned into a war. for right now i think you should worry less about what cars fit into the criterea and more about packing them in. sorry to go against your morals but run it like a business, one that you want to profit not just to make a cool hangout for your buds. once you get the word out and get that place jammed, then start to weed out the cars that dont fit the criterea. i do know of guys that already said they wont be going back. i know what you want to do with the event, i know what everyone wants to see, but fact are facts, there really arent that many traditional hotrods in nj that are on the road. there arent that many pre 58 drag cars around here either. i remember some one saying flyers werent passed out at cruise nights because they didnt want the cruise night crowd. motor speedway gives off the vibe that its more of a club event than public interest, and for it to succede you really need to draw a lot of cars and a big crowd. let it bring in the cruise night crowd for the first year or 2. so what. id rather see street rods there than to have it not happen anymore. i didnt go to the 7/11 date because im really not into bikes. i have also talked to guys that questioned the friday/saturday dates, they say the same thing, why not have it in one night. i guess thats another idea. i dont really think the 10 am start was the best idea, people spread out throught what 12 hrs? make it a 4-6 hr event, 4pm to 10pm? there really isnt enough going on to hold a crowd all day like that yet. every one has lives especially the guys that are running the show, spend your time and energy one day instead of the whole weekend. i have been patronizing etown for more than half my life on a regular basis. they could really care less about what the customers want they only care about $$$. there used to be some kick ass events there that have died because they are so damn greedy. the mopar atlantic nats has probably suffered the most. i would say old time drags 2nd. pontiac day. olds day. buick day. pretty sure they combined all 3 of them, then they added it to another event. they dont want to hear shit for suggestions, they could really care less. seems liek they wantto cater to the sunday bracket crowd, and the late model guys. those are the 2 keeping them afloat. i cant see how you are going to keep motor speedway going without drawing some bucks to keep them happy.

The whole idea behind motor speedway is to encourage people to build/finish traditional pre 1958 hot rods and custom cars... If we slack and let "the cruise night crowd" in then we are just like every other event... sure we could let anyone and everyone in for a while and then weed them out but that is worse - to me anyway - than not letting them in from the begining... you know? it would be shitty to include people and then all of a sudden when our wallets are fat enough shut them out... money is important, but this goes way beyond that my friend...

We are specific in what we let in, but that is because we are persuing our interests while trying to do something different for the East coast. We knew from the begining that we are catering to a small group of cars and people, and the only problem so far is that half of that small group has still not shown themselves at an event yet...

Motor Speedway is still a new and growing thing, we learn something new with every event that we throw and we adapt how we need to... But no matter what happens we will stay true to our hearts and we will not fold or stray away from our tradtional roots... No billet, no BS and thats the bottome line hahaha

  14. Yeah, fuck that! I'm not taking anyones money 1st, and if I was... I wouldn't include people, use them, then move em over. Tell ya what... come to the next two shows.... cause they are the last! Some of you people come on here and bitch... FTW. I thought this was a Hot Rod/kustom board for hooligans?

    Hey Folks,

Getting the word out just got in from a local show, mixed cars, handed out to those that fit the Motor Speedway theme. Also dropped one of with a gas station I pass everyday that has a couple of customs out front.

I'm keeping a few in the car and in my computer bag just incase ,so I dont miss a chance to spread the word.

Motor Speedway crew, I just thought of an idea.

Half the battle is getting "bodies" there to get them interested in traditional hot rods. I myself being a person curently without any except my daily driver park out in the normal parking lot. I get it.

But now let's say Mr or Mrs Joe Car Show roll in with a "cruise night" style car because they want to check things out and see what this is all about.

Not really knowing they might think hey we're gonna park in the fence will all the other cool cars. Then when they are stopped and say sorry your car doesn't fit in they may get pissed and just leave and worse yet tell their friends that they had a bad experience.

Now if they saw a sign that directed them to an alternative area such as "59 and up Classics, Muscle Cars, and Street Rods" This way. That puts them into a "special" area they would feel included and then proceed over to the Traditional Area.

This way Mr or Mrs Joe Car show walk away saying that was really cool and I am going to sell the 63 Impala SS and start building that old Model A that gramps left us.

Just an idea and myabe there is signage already but I havent looked cause I know my 2006 Mustang doesnt fit the show.

this is a tough deal to get something this big started & going in such a short time. I commend Mel on what he's achieved in such a short time I know he has invested alot of time, money and sweat equity (as well as his close friends) to make this deal fly!

It's got to be stressfull balancing this undertaking as well as working during the day and trying to have a personel life all at once! cut him some slack and thank the man!:)

Well that truely stinks, it's a shame that those who don't get it got to bing down those that do.

Hey I don't get drifting or the whole import scene for that matter but I don't go bashing them or trying to take anything away from them. They enjoy what they do and promote it.

So why make it so hard for what these guys are trying to do and promote the traditional scene here? Being a newbie to the scene it seems to me everything is on West Coast and there are more 32 roadsters than "insert current best selling car here" running around the streets.

Damit just when things were getting interesting.I am a Mustang guy but there is not much unique between me and the next guy and what we can "bolt" on. Now give me some Vintage machinery that you have personally built and made your own that is were it's at!

I guess the east coast has really become a fast paced, I need it right know and I worship the all mighty dollar scociety.

Can't we all just sit back relax now and then, shoot the shit and talk hot rods.

No matter what happens to this show I am hooked, met some interesting people and made some friends and enjoyed Hot Rods. Let's whoop it up, and enjoy the final days in it's current form.

For those who get it maybe some alternative meetings can be planned, hey I'm now an addict and I need my dose of Traditional Hot Rods and vintage Speed!

it is a shame that it always comes down to money, but that is what the world is all about , no one does anything with out getting paid, its just a business if " you get it or not" some people will and some wont, i think the most inportant thing is that everyone gets along with each other and make a spot for everyone, i thought that two parking lot would do the trick but unfortunitly both the lots were empty so that shoot down the idea of street rods thay dont come anyway, as i said in my last post one wrong word with the track personel and this could end real quick , hope it keeps going, i'll be their on the weekend of the 26, for my forth time attending, i realy enjoy it and love running my 30 roadster on the track see ya next weekend, everyone chill, jack

I drove my 65 Fairlane down in June , parked just outside the chain link fence . I had no problem with that. There is only so much room in the barn area anyway. Mel I hope ya don't get so dicouraged this early in the game. You sound like a guy with determination and many are hoping so. I think the suggestion of a sign to park for other years /models is a good idea. Bring the flock to see whats going on and it will grow. If it's still a bit lacking in attendence let 65 and older cars in. Keeps out the Camaro's etc. I like seeing an early 60's Super Stock Mopar or a Galaxie etc. Just my 2 cents Mel. Wishing you all the best.....Geoff

Yeah I kinda get a tingle in my,,,well I agree!

In every situation, there are people who "get it" and people who don't. Those who get it have figured out the formula for success. Those who don't spend a lot of time looking puzzled, frustrated, and doing without.

Mel, Van Horton and everyone else that got this endeavor off the ground. ???? Would some E mails directed at Raceway Park praising Motor Speedway help, or fall on deaf ears ???

I don't believe a handful of emails would make a difference, it doesn't work with the govenment. haha but hey any input is good even if it falls on deaf ears...haha
What will work is kidnapping a handful of friends and bringing them, and getting some kid's away from video games to inspire a new generation. It's gotta be about the kid's, or else history becomes myth.

    Mel, Kevin chime in here...:)

I want to thank mel and his pals for keeping it real i think the only way we can show raceway park is by going to the next meet if you have a running car or not be there i,m sure that a lot of people who drive cruze nite cars come and see how much more fun you can have with a old time hot rod or kustom don,t like this die!! Again thanks mel for all your time and work and also thanks to all the people that help you
