Ok ,in January we moved our Hot Rod Shop from a adjoining building ( been there 7 years) into our main business and training center ( been there 18 years).
I am sure some ( at least the locals) thought we were nuts !!!
Well heres some more to the story.
Linder Tech has been training technicians for over thirty years in driveability and under hood services. Over the year we developed what we call ( Guru School) a 48 hour one week jam packed training class on late model service using lab scopes and fuel injection etc. Class is typically sold out 6 months to a year and we only seat 12 seats at a session and offer only a few times per year. Students come from all over the U.S. and even over seas etc.
More info under training at www.lindertech.com
Now we have a class coming up next week and we must transform the shop back into a training center again, so heres what has happened . All cars went to the storage shed for two weeks , floor was waxed up fresh and tables went back into the room..:::eek:

Tables are wired so each student can hook test equipment to what ever project we are discussing .

    More to come............

    So heres my question???
Would there be any interest for a " Hot Rod Guru" class covering ignition systems and or vintage fuel systems ???
Example : Got a employeee thats eat up with Vintage stuff working at your shop thats too young to remember the Flintstones , ( then send him to us for a week ) for some basics.
The old guys that never fully understood the ignition and circuits of a carb ( then send him to us for a week).
Get my point ??? Would be good for the veteran as well as the novice.
    Heres kinda a outline:

    Day
1=Basic spark systems , distributors, coils etc and igntion systems.
2=More ignition systems using live engines and actual system tear downs and rebuilds.
3=Field trips to Indy 500 track and museum, a tour of a Magneto rebuilding shop and a tour of a engine dyno shop all in the modes of learning different systems etc.
4=Fuel systems , carb circuits and model break downs from strombergs thru quadrajets to afbs and edelbrocks. To include actual rebuilds and testing on live engine stands etc.
5=Finish up fuel and wrap up entire class sessions etc.

Would come with handbook and manual of all class room topics etc..

What do you guys think about that ??? Hamb discounts would apply as well... winter ??summer??? A couple a year???
Maybe a week ??? Maybe a three day weekend ?????
    Give me some ideas .????
Could bring in some system experts as instructors etc......???????

I think more people would be into a long weekend kind of deal, at least those of us that would be doing it for self learning (less time away from work, less nights in a hotel). Cost would be a big factor as well (bad economy, class cost will take away from hot rod parts). As far as when the class would be offered I think late fall, inter and early spring would be good (no interference with car shows).

I would be interested in that depending on if I could afford it.
Is there any place nearby that one could camp?

Lions Club Park in Clermont. It is about 10 minutes west and I would imagine it would be cheap.

Sounds like a very cool idea, I for one could use some ignition and carb training. Can we bring in our own parts for the class, I have a couple of Strombergs to rebuild? And a long week end would work best for me, but would do it during the week if needed, that's why I get vacation pay...

    Hell yes,
That would be a great vacation. My wife could go to the beach with the ladies and I
would go to Indy to get my self some edgimucashun. I'm in just let me know where to
    send the check.

Maybe there could be an option to work on our own stuff (dizzy & carb) while we're there?
I like the three day weekend thing but I could be there for a week aswell.

And, you don't have to put the Hot Rods away on our account :)

    Keep us posted, Jeff

From the pm's and starting response it looks like this is must do for sure.:)
I will start working on a outline for a two day weekend class ( friday and sat) 8 hours each day. Thats jam packed days with food being served here at the shop and a cookout sat evening.
I plan on each student bringing his ( or hers) distributor cores and they can return home with a functional tested unit etc. I will provide a list and make sure the parts etc are here or you can buy the parts needed etc for the class session.
Looks like we can do a "Ignition" and the do ( later on) a fuel one....
    Keep the ideas flowing.........
I am working with a cost factor right now and each two day session would include a official class "Bubbas Jacket" as well.

A couple cool old pics from the shop.
When you attended a Carter Carb class in 1958 you got this to take homwe to your shop. A lighted sign and a cabinent. I think you had to buy the cabinent full of parts.
The only way to get the sign was to take the class sessions. Pretty cool .

I think we can come up with a cool jacket instead ???

Great idea! Kind of like our Hot Rod 101 series, but more in-depth and hands on.

I'm down. I get limited vacation time, and the wife would be pissed, but this would be an ideal vacation for me ... I've been wishing there were something like this out there forever.
