What amaze's me is every so often we end up discussing cruze night cars on the HAMB. Isn't that an oxymoron? LOL

The Jalopy Journal was formed to spread the gospel of traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms to hoodlums worldwide… We wanted to be the voice of the working man, a tool in the toolbox of the guy that does it himself. -Ryan

I hope it catches on, its a great place to hang, the bar is awesome. And I'd sure like a place to drive my shit too once its running. Hope you guys keep the faith and the track does'nt mess with you too hard. I been frequenting Etown since the late 70's pre license and the late 80's as a driver/racer myself, I know they are hard to deal with.
Last Yr. was probably the easiest yr in my life racing there and thats cause they wanted our 8.50shootout class to revive friday nights like the old quick 8 days. I think we did that and thats why they rolled the red carpet out. But look at this yr. Moneys tight for all car people, I'm finally putting my old coupe back together and the race car just sits on jackstands... headcounts are low again and everyones crying about the economy, you'd figure they'd do all they can to make something on the 1/8th work when usually it's not making them a dime its sittting out back with the lights off doing didly squat. At least your usin it and drawing a crowd. The bigger crowds have to come once they find out there's a place to bring average Joe workin stiff traditional hot rod cars not billet trailer queens too. Good luck and keep your head up. Its a Great thing your doing.

thanks eld. I didn't want 2 post too many pics as I been trading what I can to finish and its as traditional as I could make it with what I got or had since 99 when it was layed up last....I can't wait to see the caps and rings on but I know the wheels will be off quite a few more times before buttoning it up. Also got some old finned valve covers given to me last night. pretty old and beat on but I'll clean em up best as I can, they look like they been sittin in a swamp for 40 yrs..... ah well can't beat free. Also had to make up the air breather bottom piece last night so it didn't bang into the throttle linkage so its getting there. Hoses and belts on, overflow tank on, brake lines bled.... lots of little knick knacks to make it tight.. going as fast as I can I want to cruise it a bit before I try a 6500 mile trip. No air guess I gotta tint this thing too keep the sun off me all day for like 10 days.. lmao

WOULD LOVE SOME Posters of Flyers of Motor speedway to hand out to who I think fits the bill. Don't let this thing die people.... there's no where else for us to go.... my garage is my only sanctuary now... but that barn sure felt homey to me............ Fight the Fight Mel and crew... you guys get my vote.

Mel, my pile is no where near ready, but if I get a few more items buttoned up on it consider it there the 26th. I know it might not make a difference, but some emails and a good showing of cars that wiknd might turn things around and put some coin where it belongs.

For as long as I've known you, good things have happened in NJ car-wise. And each one has been better than the last. If this is the end for Raceway, I'd bet this won't be the last time you have your hand in some sort of show/gathering in NJ.

I'm on your side buddy. I'd hate to see this thing go under just yet.

14. Man I am down there for sure. I will hopefully be there both nights.

I got a truck full of spares and goodies to sell. So people bring your money cause i need it. haha

15. Thanks all for your support!

But as my main man Prince said, ...Party like it's 1999! I'm my head, this is over for me on July 25th and 26th..... and July 31...and Aug. 1st. Truth is, I have commitments to The Burbank Choppers, Alter Boys, and Los Str8 on Aug. 1st.

I'm cancelling the July 24th movie night, as it just doesn't have the crowds yet....and Raceway runs their gayness on the track till late, and it interupts my movie. F it.

This way I can pick up my Chopper pals, relax Friday night, wake up beach side with those gents, Meet up with the Alter Boys, and roll in Saturday before you all get there at 5pm....Gate 4.

Saurday is going to be good. I have called all my pals that build good old timey stuff, they told me they would come. You will see some interesting stuff... Indians, 1940's drag boat, 32's, A-bones, drag cars, projects for sale, etc. OILERS are holding an Invitational inside, we have all called some friends, should be fun. Again, some good pals have some life commitments as they had schedules in place before I made mine... It will be good though!

I'm going to tell the owners I will do a few shows a year... I'll get on the same page with you peoples... and we will figure out what works. Yes, you can always count on me doing something stupid in NJ. Will it be at Raceway... I'm not sure??? Up to them them do the right thing and help me promote this.

We Oilers will be doing a spegetti dinner/dance, and inside show in an Armory. Working out details now... maybe in fall or winter when everything really sucks. Keep you posted!

JULY 24 IS CANCELLED! Spread the word...

Sat is at 5pm till 1am, Gate 4... Sunday is at 8am till 6pm, Gate 4

Come see the Jersey Devil!!!!

Mel,

You can make some of the people happy some of the time but you cant make all of the people happy all of the time! (fortune cookie)

I think what I'm trying to say is you have to make boundaries and guidelines then stick to them. This shit is never easy!, You will always have folks who whine and bitch about the smallest details, I hear it every year at our show!. I see myself as a believer and an optimist....but every year at our show folks pull up to the gate in the biggest gay rods and bust my balls. I have no problem with period cars, 30's, 40's, 50's....70's period.....it just needs to be correct for that year. I piss a lot of people off but I believe in our show and what we as a club are doing to ensure the that the type of cars we all love come to our show.....sure lots of marginal cars come every year. I would rather have 20 bitchin' hot rods come rather than 200 crappy cars, for me its not about the money it about doing something once a year that everybody looks forward to.

I think what your doing is great, and I know what your doing...I really do, make it something special that everybody looks forward to, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Your pal, Pete
Alter boys.

19. Friday the 24th is cancelled, that was a movie night... our regular movie night. I was going to show some old hot rod films as usual. Soory, but not enough people attending to warrant us opening.

Saturday the 25th... this is the night of the primere..."Devil at Your Feet" featuring the burbank and Alter boys. This night, always was the primere night, sorry for any confusion.

Sat, 5pm till 1am Gate 4

Sun, 8am till 6pm Gate 4

I've gotten a few e-mails about this, so I wanted to help clear things up a bit... Saturday, July 25th will be the big screen Premiere of "The Devil at Your Feet!" at Motor Speedway.

This is your chance to see a Hot Rod movie at "The Drive-In," you can be there the first time around and tell kids in twenty years how you saw "The Devil at Your Feet!" on the big screen... Don't miss out on this, you might actually regret it.

Click Here for more info on the film.

Get ready guys, this show will be great. And definitely expect a crowd at this one, as we have been saving all of our invites for this show. See you there.

Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A body makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, just won't stall

With a 4-barrel carb and a dual exhaust
With 4.11 gears you can really get lost
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

Wound it up to a hundred-and-ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is and there ain't no more

Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!
The lines on the road just look like dots"

Took a corner, sideswiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas

We had flames comin' from out of the side
Feel the tension, man, what a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by

Now all of a sudden she started to knockin'
And down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln!"
