It's a 37 Delahaye. In a whole different cl*** of build (coachbuilding) than what we normally see here.

And expensive as hell- even back then.

French coach built masterpiece works of art. Most have a clever thumb shifter mounted near the steering wheel. Fabulous art deco rolling sculpture.

Probably the most extreme exercise in Art-Deco styling used for a production automobile.
    extremely graceful, flowing lines.

Stellar cars. The 1st pics show what looks like a folding split windshield, but check out the pic in post #9. If I'm seeing right it's the type that cranks flat into the cowl like a door gl***. The gears for the mechanism are exposed on the back of the corner posts of the W/S. Too kool...

    Car ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Here's a frontal shot of that last one-a 39 Delahaye. Notice the top edge of the windshield if barely visible in this picture. Did the thing slide up and down? There's a new trick for somebody to try with a custom. No doubt about it big bucks cars but nothing more beautiful in the auto hobby.

    Hey,

The car pictured is, as mentioned, a 1937 Delahaye 132 with coachwork by Figoni & Falaschi. All 132 models by all coachbuilders combined probably didn't excede 200 units.

Emile Delahaye started in 1894 in Tours, France making both cars and trucks. By 1934 he was making some of the most beautiful cars ever made. Coach work was by Figoniet et Falascha, Chapron, Letourneur et Marchand. Even built some race cars. 1954 saw the company bought out and car production was stopped. Last one I saw was in Naples, Fla. at the Collier Museaum, 2004. Absoluty gorgous, even took a picture and was almost thrown out of the place. (no pictures allowed) I sined, Ice man

  21. And if you like that one,Terry Cook is making a reproduction Delahaye now.I think the prototype is still being worked up.Steve Pierce from One-Off Technologies did some work on it.

I would have thought these were OT although they are really cool cars. Being there IS some interest I'll post some pics of a "barn find" aluminum body post war convertible coupe the next time I'm in there. It's sort of a funny deal , I've known about it for 40 yrs or so and if it were a Deuce roadster , I probably wouldn't have gotten a decent nights sleep all that time. I know it's there, the guy who owns it knows it's there, it's in a barn, it's all covered with dirt and ****, but if someone else stumbled upon I guess it WOULD be a "barn find". I have never got a good view of it because of all the stuff on and around it, but I do know it has a louver job on the aluminum hood with rows of progressively sized louvers would be something to die for.

check out talbot lago also, French cars were not all warty, and ugly things like Citreons, Renaults, and Peugots. Although some 30 Peugots were pretty neat.

I'm sure you already know it's a Delahaye. Not to be confused with that abortion Boyd made, called the "Whatthehey" or some **** like that. But I will make fun of you-Your nose is too big, and your eyes are different sizes. Oh, and about your hair-ever hears of conditioner?
Sorry, I had to. You asked me not to in the thread name, and I'm kind of an ***hole like that.
