I have a few cool old trophies....but I can imagine what cool ones are out there. Some of these trophies are as historical as the cars themselves.......post pics if you have them.

The first couple of pics are of a 3rd place midget trophy from 1953. The second trophy is from 1957 and the rest of the pics are just parts of trophies that are in pieces. I like the sculpting on the small parts though, nice detail. All of these are from Hawaii. I hear circle track was real big here in the fifties.

Now look at the sculpting on that trophy top. Really nice. Wish I had more, but I guess I've been lucky to find the ones I do have.

Hard to see, but it says A gas coupe top speed, 144.10, El Mirage, October, 1961. Towed dad's race car to El Mirage with the '58 Ranchero, then Un corcked the headers on the Les Ritchey 390, and ran top time in A gas coupe. A double duty tow car!

The plaque is for participation in the '62 Winternationals car show. Did better the next weekend with a cl*** win, and two rounds in street eliminator at the Winternationals.

    Dean,

Not to highjack the thread, but do you happen to remember the results of the 62 Winternats Street Eliminator rounds? I know my car (the Gr***man/Osterman/Nicholson/Wade B/SP Corvette) participated in the Street Eliminator runs, but Brendan never remembered who beat who in all the rounds. All I know is that Earl Wade won with Mike Lenke's A/SP Corvette. Can you do me a big favor and list what you remember??

Oh, and here is a picture of the cl*** trophy..........

  24. I used to have a bunch of cool vintage drag trophies but I sold them when times were tough and I needed a cheeseburger. I've got a few left...one I can't figure out. It's a little golden roaster on a marble base, and the stem is engraved "O.T.A. DRAGS 1957". I don't know what O.T.A. stands for.?

While I was checking out the Dover dragstrip 2008 reunion photos I saw something in this category that is just a tad different. At Lebanon Valley Dragway they used to give you the option of taking a trophy or Gold Fender Protectors and I had forgotten about them. You were real cool to have one for each fender because that meant you won at least twice. My pair long gone with all the moves wish I still had them.

They even had an option where you could "Save up" your winners tickets and after the nerve wracking wait of three weekends you got a giant trophy marked three time winner. It was worth the wait but one more thing to think about when on the line waiting for the last yellow.

Any other "trophy options" anyone can remember?

photos at (toward the end of the 2008 reunion page) http://www.doverdragstrip.com/home.htm

  26. Island Dragway in North Jersey gave cl*** winners the option of a trophy or a certificate worth $10.00 which could be used as cash at Don's Speed Shop in Metuchen. Lots of guys, myself included, used the certificates to keep the cost of new parts down.

I am now the keeper of this trophy. It goes with my Brissette & Sutherland Replica. Jim Brissette sent this to me.

Don't know who beat who. Al I know is we beat the C/gas '58 impala of the Shig-Shimzer team, then lost to SWC. If Earl beat Cookie, he must have caught him really sleeping 'cause there was no tree in '62, and the faster cl***es usually dominated the eliminator catagories.
