Ok so here's the deal, My neighbor who is dying from cancer has asked me to take care of his estate for him when he passes away. He's got a couple of old rods that will have to be sold so his wife will have some money to live on until their house sells. I've done some looking and really can't find anything comparable to them so I figured I'd throw up a couple pics and hopefully you guys can give me an idea of what they may be worth. One is a 29 A pickup and the other is a 46 ford coupe. The a has a 350/350 combo and is a driver. the 46 has a 351 cleveland with a ford aod tranny. It runs and drives, has about one hundred miles on it. It has all new glass, the original seats, new wheels and tires, all it needs is the body work to be finished and paint. I appreciate all the help on this guys.

    Lee

Thanks guys, the hard part will be getting them sold when the time comes. I hate to put them up on evilbay or craigslist, but I'm not sure what else to do with them.

I was taking a guess when I said 29. Does the year difference make a difference when it comes to value?

A little O/T I guess, but sorry to hear about your neighbor's terminal cancer. Too much of that going around.

  14. Why not put them on Ebay just to see what they will draw. You don't have to actually sell them if you have a high reserve.Ebay gives a good indication of value even if we don't like it.

Being as I'm new here, what does O/T stand for? I want to learn as much as I can about all this. My rod is a little new for this site it seems. It's a 66 ford f-100.

I may end up doing just that, my biggest hang up would have been setting the reserve too low. I know my neighbor would like to see about 12k for the A and probably 5k for the 46. You guys know the values of these cars better than I do, that's why I asked about them here. If you guys want more pictures of the rigs let me know and I'll take more and post them.

  19. If you plan on selling here go to the class adz and get a feel for what has sold.
What you're looking at is about 30-40K worth of iron.

But here is my thoughts on it. if the fella is dying he knows it and you know it shouldn't you and he be trying to sell it now before you leave his widow stuck between a rock and a hard spot?

  20. I've seen guys trying to get as much as 35K for 30-34 pickups that were done, turn-key drivers. But that's way, way high in most cases. 10-15K is probably about right on it. The coupe, I don't know as much on either.

eBay can be rough to try to sell something, what gets no bids one week can get two guys fighting driving the price beyond any actual value the next.

It might be worth trying to stir up people's sympathy with a short explanation of why they're for sale.

He doesn't want them sold until after he's gone. Biggest reason to even sell them is to give his wife some extra money for her to live on until the house is sold. She's planning on moving out of state and doesn't want to take them with her. If it was up to her to sell them they'd probably go for a couple grand each. She doesn't care about old rods and has no idea what it takes to build them.

Yeah, no shit, tell me about it. If I could afford them I'd buy them in a heartbeat. I doubt I'd do anything to either of them either. Just drive them the way they are and remember the fun we had building them.

I wouldnt sell that pickup for less than 13K. I say 14k is about right. It doesnt take long to wrap up 15K in anything you build. I hate the whole situation this guy is in. Lost my Step Dad not long ago, Took his tools to an auction for my Mom. What a shit day.

I couldn't say it any better. And I agree that the truck is worth all of 14k.

In this economy you won't get what they were going for just 2 years ago, but since you're on the west coast I'd say try to sell both in California...you'll make the most here. There are still a lot of idiots here with fat checkbooks ready to "build a car" and become a hot-rodder with the stroke of a pen. I'd say here you'd get 14K to 16K for the pickup easy and around 10K for the '46.

BTW: I lost my dad to cancer a little over 5 years ago. I'm sorry for your friends poor health...very sad situation. Best thing you can do for him is help his beloved out any way you can - you're earning points with the Big Guy upstairs...
