Well this shot is a little spooky. I drive thru Elwood sometimes on my way to Indy. Thinking the building in the background of this shot is still readily visible along Hwy 37 near Elwood.
This was the first sign I recall when I moved to Phoenix. I got stationed here in 1969 and went down to "auto alley" (Camelback Rd.) looking for transportation and bought a used '60 Chevy at this dealership. <!-- / message -->
When in Los Angeles, check out MONA - the Museum Of Neon Art. Very Cool. And take their Neon Cruise - an evening ride in a double decker bus that goes past all of LA's best neon signage. JimSig
There is some amazing stuff posted here. Wow. The Lonnie's sign recently had the neon holes plugged & was repainted. Wish I had gotten a better pic before they did it. The Red Moon sign hung over an old gas station in Paris, TN. A friend bought it & had it mounted in the side of his garage. The white letters are milk glass & it lights up. Not much to look at in the daylight (he "over-restored" it back before anyone had any appreciation for a little patina) but it is gorgeous at night. JH
The former White Satin Sugar - White Stag Sportswear - and soon to be former Made in Oregon sign. Downtown Portland, OR.
Back in the fall of '84 I drove my '67 nova here and saw "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" with my girlfriend Laura....6 months later it was leveled and the corporate headquarters for Waffle House was built in its place was that really 25 yrs ago???wow
