all though this doesnt compare to yalls projects(either and prostockjohn to name a few)....i have to start some where.

    1. 2 pictures is the daytime shots of when it got loaded on transporter.

    2. 4 other pictures is the nighttime shots of when the new(new to me and free) mirrors and removed center caps off wheels(the wheels i hate). there is so much to do!! doing alot of mechanical stuff. IE: brakes, cooling, and electrical.

soon i will be lowering the body over the GM chassis more(tons of room), seats, window treatments, and removing the rocker skirts!?!? whats the chances that the car has perfect rockers under that sheet metal skirt?? it did when they put it those ridicules things on in 1990 or so.... anyway, here ya go!!

thanks for everyones help and advise along this road ahead!!

  2. Herb my project is nothing special, but thanks for the comment. There are a lot of amazing Mercs to check out, have you been to Rik Hoving's photo archive?

My advice for you is to drive it, and do some research if you elect to work on it. I changed my mine a few times until I settled on what I was trying to do with mine.

heh, might as well begin the search here, anybody know where I can score a set of '51 mordoor B pillars? oh, and matching door ends(the end of the door that mates to the B pillar).
They were of course supposed to be sent with the car when my car was shipped, but of course, were not.

*sigh* next time, I save up for a plane ticket AND the price of the car and shipping...

Cool! When did he get that frame? Is that the one we saw at the LA Roadster Show?

  5. Just curious, why is Bob swapping frames?

  6. Yeah I'm curious too.

I need to take an inventory of my rubber seals to see if I have all of them.

Someone on here, I think it is Matt, keeps saying that I cannot do the interior with the rear window in the car. So I will ask Dave Martinez but in the meantime I'd like to hear more about that.

My 51`is not much in progress now. But frame is ready. Sandblasted, pint, powdercoated front axleparts, airride,...........!!
Now the body get sandblasted under the floor. Get some primer on, black paint.
And than the body back on the frame. I would chop it.
But now time have to change it for a while.
Family is growing. Hopefully in begin of august. Maybe a new hotrodder and customguy??
    Will see!!

When I put my headliner in, I had to stretch out the wrinkles in the rear, then held the headliner in place by glueing it to the edges of the rear window opening. That would be the metal edges of the rear window opening. Then later when I installed the rear window, the rear window gasket would go over the headliner in that area.

Even in a non HAMB friendly classic Mustang I had to remove the front and rear glass to put in the headliner.

Maybe a professional upholstery guy knows how to do it though in some trade secret way without removing the window.

Lost 39, nice website! It looks like you re did all your upholster. Did you have to pull out your window to put in your headliner?

Mine was put into storage last week. We bought a new house and have been moving, the new garage needs some work before I can work on the cars again. The merc has most of the body work done and I was able to drive it on and off the trailer. I can't wait to get back on it....

  12. 10-4 Matt. Matt or anyone else knowledgeable about window trim... is it a good idea to start out with a set of the stock stuff and then trim? Is it stainless or something else? Better to make new stuff from scratch?

  13. Are you talking about the stainless around the pinchweld of the side windows??

My '51 got sold to pay the tax man this spring and my smashed '50 is still tucked away safely behind the shop, where it'll probably stay for a long time. I think the best course of action for that one is to find a complete 4 door and just swap all the coupe stuff onto it.

    Hey,
If I were installing a headliner in a '49-'51 I would defenitly pull the front and rear glass. This will allow one to fully stretch the vinyl or cloth headliner material and obtain a really good fit in the area of the back window. The only thing worse than a poorly stitched headliner is a poorly installed one! Material that is jus tucked between the gasket and the metal will evently sag.

  18. Here's another one we recently started. So far we have media blasted it and it was quite a bit worst off than it looked so we had to do alot more of metal repair to it than orginally thought. Both front floor pans, Both outter door rockers, Bottom side of both doors, Both lower front fenders, Both lower rear fenders, Front side of hood, Trunk pan outter corners and spare tire well, Roof belt line under trim on both sides in the rear quarters and replaced the whole rear window opening frame. We have also frenched the head & tail lights, Shaved the normall stuff, Rebuilt all the door hinges & trunk hinges and springs, Added newer door & trunk latches, Rounded the trunk upper corners and sealed it in an epoxy primer. Now we can finally start chopping it old school style with straight B post 4" front and 5" rear. Been very bussy lately and have had no extra time for any posts but have made good progress on the other mercs but will save that for another time.

ya i believe its the same frame from the roadster show. hes a hamb guy, had it for sale on here too. bob plans to swap it eventually, the front clip in that merc isnt the best choice. the engine mounts arent to pretty either. he might try and pic up a cleaveland or a 302 to sit down it there but not sure yet. i got the flathead freed up and it looks to be in good shape. i think he plans to throw it on a stand and pretty it up a bit and eventually throw it in the model A.

Here's a pic of my 53 tudor. I was told that the Olds 303 Rocket 88 would be a good fit but after having it laid in to measure for motor mounts we find that the pan won't clear the steering arms! Bummed out now, might have to rebuild the 53 flatty and just go with that and figure out what to put the 88 in later.

Hold on with the bummer bit! I've got a "little book" somewhere with a how-to story on swapping an Olds into a Merc...I think. I'll locate it as soon as I can and scan it for you. I'm sure some other "old guys" can help you, too. :)

Bob... Thank God there are still some rodders who don't cut a car just because they can! It takes uncommon restraint and good taste to simply leave a good thing alone! Very nice car! I'm looking forward to seeing more of it! :)

  27. Dark dark dark blue or black, in that order. I'll go black if Paul (bodyshop) and I can't find a blue that we think is great.

I'm thinking it would be pretty awesome if I debuted it on wide whitewalls and painted rims even if I don't have hubcaps sorted out yet, so I'll plan to do that and off the current thin whites.

  28. Sounds awesome! Are you going with a bench seat?
