    Hi all,

I have a really nice NOS Stewart warner 'wings' reverse rotation tach I want to run in my 99A flathead powered '32 roadster, i think its out of a tractor or something, goes to 4500rpm and has an engine hour meter, which is kinda neat.

I have the right angle drive reverser, so the rotation direction isnt a problem.

I would love to know how to set up a drive for this, Im guessing the standard way is off the crank pulley , i have never seen a photo of this setup..was it made by stewart warner as an accessory? and Is it available new anywhere? I guess the other option is off the back of the generator, with a reduction box to get the revs right. We have a few places in Melbourne that can build me a cable to my specs..

I would love to see photos of any tach drive setup on a front mount-distributor flathead, Im sure with a few clear photos for reference i could build something..room up front is a bit tight, but i have maybe three inches ahead of the pulley to the radiator tank..hoping its possible.

how was it done back in the day? any and all contributions welcome!

These are 3 of the different SW Tach drive mounts for Flathead motors . 2 are driven by the crank and 1 is a generator mount , driven off the front of the generator , held by a special mount bracket . The crank mount is easy and repro brackets are available , etc..........Z

    thanks all,

yeh back of generator makes sense, I think I like the idea of crank driven for some reason..maybe because i like designing bracketry! those pics are great Z-Didddy, i really like the alloy one on the 32 frame..the Ardun bracket looks easy to build too.giving me some good ideas, I didnt consider it but mounting the right angle drive right there is obvious now i see those..i guess just a short length of flex cable stuck into the crank bolt..
now theres a snag, how to cut a square hole in the crank bolt!! do you just buy a little bung that has the square hole already and set screw it in?? maybe the cable shop will know.

The ARDUN is mine , I took a piece of square br*** tube and pressed it into a round hole in the end of the crank bolt for the drive cable.........Z.

**** that is cheap! even with shipping to here would be reasonable.

the shame of it is I have built a really nice offset gen mount that Im getting chromed, and it suits a ford gen, which has a larger dia. than the lucas ones, and i dont know if a front cover with the mount tower for a ford/lucas gen would just interchange with that one..

Thanks Z.diddy, i guessed a simple bush would do the trick, so it looks like Im getting my fabrication hat on soon!

Hello! Its no problem to reverse the angle drive its going to take it apart
and up and down.I buy a SW angle drive on ebay and build a bracket
to it in ironplate and make a kee hole in crankbolt.Works very good .
