I am wanting to lower my stock 40 Ford a couple of inches in the rear and I see where Speedway sells a Super slide that says it drops the rear 2". Has anyone used one of these? Is there a better or cheaper way to do it? I plan on a 4" drop front axle up front. Any suggestions would be great!
this one? i believe it is made by Posies. i installed one in a `36 Ford and it did not bring it down a bit over the stock original that has sagged from 70 years of use http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Early-Ford-Super-Slide-Rear-Springs,842.html
I used a Posie spring in the rear and I removed the 2 top leafs, then I used 46/48 shackles which dropped it another 1/2". I would still like to get it down maybe one more inch but I am waiting to see what happens after I put some more miles on it.
I made some longer shackles to drop my 48 Ford. It has stock panard bars front and rear. Not sure if the 40 does. If it doesn't be careful or install one.
Yea, That is the one I was looking at and that was what I was worried about cause mine seems to sit lower from age as well.
Taking leaves out of a transverse ford leaf spring to lower the car has been done almost from when they were new. That and longer shackes were the "back in the day" hi tech method. Try removing the shortest leaves and see how it comes out. With the shorter leaves removed you should get a better ride along with lowering. Try the two top leaves and see what that gives you, then go from there. Frank
Thanks Frank, I was going to try that first but wanted a backup plan in case I hit a snag with the 70 year old*****! Tom
