I don't know how you guys that sell cars for a living do it without being up on murder charges! You have my utmost respect.

I hang on to my stuff for a long time so I don't buy and sell alot, but when I do, I love the guys that offer "cash". I don't think they understand that the car ain't leaving my sight until I have "cash", whether the bank has to turn a check into green or not. I guess that works to get a lower price if the seller is in a hurry, which luckily I've never been. It can sit right here until your check clears...no problem.

When I was selling my sedan delivery at the Pomona Swap Meet, I had a guy piss me off so badly that I told him I wouldn't sell it to him for twice what I was asking. He thought I was playing hardball; he learned I was just being truthful.

I have been there, with an engine and trans I have been trying to sell, and two cars. My prices are solid, its what I have in them for goodness sake. One guy wanted me to take $1000 less because he had to get it to wisconsin. WTF thats not my problem.

I still have the cars, and the engine, and dunno when I will sell them. If I didnt have to move accross country I would keep them. Hey wait a minute, I decided I would keep them since I am tired of dealing with Jagoffs (local term). I will get them out there when I can then. Just have to hustle 2 of them out in my alotted time.

    I feel your pain.

I pretty much hate dealing with people. I hate the phone calls and stupid emails. I had a 59 F-100 that I swapped a 400 c6 in. I had guit messing with it and had it listed for $200. I kept getting calls asking how much rust and whats it need and they never came or called back. Its really suprising a $200 truck has rust and needs work isn't it. I finally sold it to my uncle to use for parts. I was going to sale it to him for $100 since he helps me a lot but he handed me $200 so I was happy about that. Last year I had a 74 f-100 swb listed for $500 it had a great body with no motor or tranny which was listed and I kept getting calls about how does it run. I also had a guy try to trade me 2 rifles which were worth maybe $100 each for a complete truck and 2 truck cabs

    do what i do.
i make appointments for all the people who call about a car i have for sale to show up at the same time.

if i only get one person,i get my brother to show up at the same time and act interested.

    this works very well.

  8. From experience I know what I'm in for when I just want to dispose of some old heap quickly and cheaply just to get it out of my life. It's like an invitation to all clowns, flakes, wankers and other loose pieces. I'll usually work harder to sell a $400 car than a $4K car.

When they are grinding me over a few bucks I just tell them the tires are good, it's got current tags and you can drive it away. That's it. Don't waste my time bargaining here.

And who doesn't love being paid with wads of limp, damp and soiled $5s, and $10s?

If someone picks one of my car and ask if I can do better on the price I say sure I can and add about 500.00 to the price...

just ignore the tire kickers, walk away.
their wives wont let them buy anything anyway. some just want to look so they have something to talk about (dream about.)

it dosent matter if they drive all day to get there or walk across the street the price is the same.
some say they need a discount as they are driving in from bumfuk i say the price is probably going to be higher because if you are driving in from a distance your probably going to be late & make me wait.

my brother has a small used car lot and had a guy try to talk down the price of a $500 car.
he kept on until my brother said "well , why don't you come back at 6:00 tonite" the guy replies "what for" brother says that the car starts, runs and stops and if that isn't worth $500 than at 6:00 he will burn the sob and the customer come come and watch!

  13. Have a motor listed on eBay. In the second line of the description it says the motor is set up. Email question: Will it turn over?

I should have told him "sure, if you get on one side and push real hard" ...

You did the right thing. There is no point to getting upset or arguing with an idiot. I find this hobby attracts all kinds. Everyone likes a deal, but lets be realistic.

Thats probably how i would have delt with the guy too..all the time he was talking and talking i would be slowly leading him out..
than without a word gotten in my truck and drove off..or if i was at home , i would have just shut the door.
Who needs the agrivation these days..its a "Used" Car

I had a beater for sale with a big assed sign on the front $1000 FIRM. Guy calls and wants to look. He comes around with a herd of rednecks looking like the deliverance crowd. They get in it, under it, kick the tires and green teeth says " So you want a thousand, what will you take?" I says sign says 1000 firm. He says " It ain't worth a 1000". On and on he goes so finally I says "Look, I'm busy here and I'm going back into the shop, you guys decide if you want it or not and let me know". They kick the tires a little more and they leave. Green teeth calls me next day "Will you take a check?" I says " it's sold, I got 1200 for it". Actually, I wound up giving it to a friend in need.

I hear you all, we got this tire kikin terd around here who comes to look at your ride, then he,ll leave. he goes and list your shit w/ his # and his price. he calls you and says his relative wants to see the car, and asks if you not discuss$$ while he,s there. this scumbag is makin $ on shit w/o buyin anything

  21. Just for kicks, I'd ask (right in front of whomever he brings with him) "So, are you gonna give me the *asking price* or not?" or better yet, sell it to the guy/gal who comes to look at it for 50 bucks less than HE was gonna pay ya...it's fun to bust those kinds' balls....

Only thing that pisses me off more is when someone is selling a car and raises the price like the 327 4spd '63 nova i almost checked on for 1000 until he said he had a guy that was gunna pay $2500 for it. Might still be a good deal, but Pissed me off all too hell

I spent my life in the car business before retireing. Now, when I have a car for sale i politely explain that I had to negotiate on price my whole working life and now I don't. Price is firm, make an offer and it is no longer for sale.

This world has gone to shit!

    lol I feel your frustration:D

  27. That one's easy to deal with. When he tries to buy your car, tell him the price is now whatever he's advertising it for. Or tell the guy he shows up with that you haven't sold this clown the car yet and he might want to talk deal with you directly.

how bout the guys that lie to your face and kiss your ass? I had a guy come up and look at a '65 GTO i've been trying to sell. The thing is i hadnt even advertised it, he heard about it from a guy who heard about it. He shows up at the shop one day while i wasnt there. A buddy was the only one there at the time working on his own shit. My buddy gives him my cell # and he calls me and acts like i should know who he is "Chuck who?" apparently he lives nearby. I told him to wait there cuz i was on my way in anyway.

I get there, never met the guy in my life. I told him about the car and explain to him that i have 6grand into the car and just wanted to break even, and that i WOULD NOT TAKE A PENNY LESS. I also told him that i wasnt going to show him the car if he didnt plan on buying it. He proceeds to tell me how great my hotrod looks, and how he hasnt seen stuff like that since he left Cali. Now he gets to talking about all the stuff he's built over the years(i highly doubt it).....

.....so i take him to see the car. He goes nuts over it, "i'll take it!" Crawls all over and under the car. Then he tells me that he needs to get paid for his '61 and he'll be up the next day. He comes up the next day, tells me his wife says everything is all good(the day before he told me that he does what he wants and she cant say otherwise) Now he wants to scrub the VIN tag and look at it one more time.....

I never heard from him again. Its a true GTO, so that wasnt it.....

Later my father tells me that he was in the shop over the winter looking for a job, two weeks before that he pulled the same crap on my mother who was trying to sell a horse.
