Saw this on the CarDomain blog site... no idea where it's from, but it's definitely an 11 on the scale of crazy Googie era ornamentation. Got examples of over-the-top brightwork, knobs, dashboards, etc.? Let's see 'em!
Love COOL Hood ornaments! My 32' Chevy has a 'Rolls-Royce" Flying-Ecxtasy" I took off a totaled rolls royce silver shadow at a junk yard. Supposedly its solid sterling silver, I haven't verified that yet, other than calling a rolls royce/bentley dealership and asking for the replacement cost; $5200.00 installed ( I got $15.00 in mine...LOL)

I've always thought this one was the ultimate. I know the whole skull thing is over done but this ones from the twenties! Apparently it was from a "safe" motoring club in england. It even lights up. Kinda reminded of the idsky hood ornament. John
Looks like the Enterprise from the old Star Trek show. I have a friend that does old hot rods & he whittled out a hand from aluminum holding a skull for his 50 Ford. The guy has mad skills
Back to the original post, here's one on a car. Taken in England about 4-5 years ago. (can't actually remember exactly, or who owned the car) You can just about make it out on the '29.
I am totally into "different looking hood ornaments". Back in 2005, while at the Stray Kat 500 show, in Dewey, Oklahoma, there was a early 50s white Ford shoebox, not sure of the year. I took a picture of this hood ornamant, I have looked for TWO hours and can't find the darn thing, but it had a badly worn FULLER BRUSH for a hood ornament. I have always been into odd looking ornaments, so when I saw this I got a picture of it, the owner was right behind the car and was laughing, telling me I was the ONLY person who got a close up of this strange looking ornament! I will keep looking, I know I have it SOMEWHERE!!!! But just had to join in on this conversation!!! If the owner reads this, PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I have not seen the car at any show since. Carrie
I think that space ship was made by a company called "Gem" back in the 50`s, they made accessory ornaments since the 30`s
Hopefully FatAbone (Junior) will chime in with photos of his Ass- He has an old chrome Donkey ornament with light up eyes, looks like it could have been made by the same company as the flying saucer. In the mean time, here's another ornament from the auction site that we all love to hate...
I'm glad you showed this hood ornament. I think you just helped me solved a mystery I'd been trying to solve for two years now. I was in New England a few years back and ran into this English couple at a hotel bar and started talking to them. Well one thing led to another and we started talking about WWII. Anyway His father was in the war and was upstairs in a room sleeping. The man told me to meet them for breakfast the next morning and ask his father about the war, he loves to talk about it. Anyway long story short, I met them the next morning and one of the things he talked about was being in the Long Range Desert Group in North Africa. And he told me how one of there 30cwt Chevrolet trucks had a light up skull and crossbones on the front. I never thought to ask him where on earth they got it from. I'm willing to bet it by some means came from this car club you speak of. So thank you for posting this. Sorry for the long story. - Johnny
