If you pay the insurance premium, we'll do the skates;),
Really though-Jim hasn't decided on that yet.

All of the Sonics that we have been to seem to have both, Didn't ask the franchise owner what their premium was,but was on our minds, same with the window trays. With litigation happy people these days, the worry is that someone will say that we scratched their $10k paint job even though the trays will be rubberized on their contact points.

These are things that we worry about in the 21st century, Mid Century Modern was so much better ;).

Seriously though, we want everyone to enjoy their visit there and hope that we can have many relive their great experience from their pasts.

The movie is "Can't Hardly Wait" and stars Jennifer Love Hewitt,Jenna Elfman. Lots of great interior shots as well as a roof scene showing D IVE-IN with the R out,(the producers loved that it said that)onto the main character in one of the three phone booths that were there long after 'The Car Outlet" got ahold of it,Wonder where they went:confused:

Yes, it's for the water run off that may not ever make it out there, but the city wants them installed,so Jim is just following proceedure and complying with the rules.
When we were there on Friday, the place looked great with the windows installed.
I'm actually getting the feeling of the original restaurant when I walked in the COFFEE SHOP area and looked out the glass while the roofers were spreading HOT TAR.

The word is sureal ! Stucco and drywall is going on soon. Then comes the interior!
Every week we try to post an update of the visuals as they are happening. Now it's going to start changing rapidly. We'll do what we can to keep ya guys posted.
Thanks Doug for posting the pix.

    Hey Kevin,

    Wow ,what a restoration......!

Did the ''city of'' kick down any funding to help pull this across the finish line? I see words like "Joint Development" and "Community Development Dept." but other than show up for photo opps does the city "have any skin in the game''? It looks like a win-win for all , "if " Downey is in, but they would have also won thru the demo. and redevelopment that fit their plan in that area of Firestone Blvd. to begin with.

    Great job, and good luck!

    Hey Pimpin,
Yes, it is a win win for all of us, meaning HAMBers.
Downey hasn't thrown the bones in yet, as the restaurant has to be completed and ready for biz 1st. They did commit to a nominal sum which attempts to make up for what happened 32mos ago.
I only wish that the perp would have been the one to have to pay to put this place back together because it's nerve warcking at times.

The good side of the coin is that we get to experience its build once again
and get to welcome it back. I know with all of the other Big Boys being built here in the So Cal region that we are not alone, but we aspire to be a stand out. Please support it by using it whenever you can.

  10. Are they looking to do a weekly cruise night after the restaurant is done like they use to.

    Thanks
    Frenchy

Yes, that's going to happen on Wednesday nites. It will be an every week deal. No raflle,50/50 or anything like that, It'l be pretty much the way Burbank/Toluca lake runs. A place for people with cars to gather and grub.
Hope to see you if ya cruise in from AZ.

  12. I'll be there October 13th and what time does it start.

    Thanks

Doug, thanks for taking the time to post all my photos for everyone. John and I drove down Saturday at sunset to photograph so the second group was taken just a day later, Aug. 1st. You can really feel the momentum now! Jim, if you're out there I know this doesn't nearly do it, but THANKS!! We're all behind ya.

I have the same question. I want to try and cruise out, from Phoenix, for the grand opening festivities. Are there any definitive dates set yet? The progress is looking great!

The 19th will be The Last Rock and Roll Show event that Danny (Del Torro) White is having. (Go to his website for info). Hopefully will fully be up to speed by then, but not making any promisses.
That event will happen either way, at minimum we hope to have car hops serving up Big Boys, Fries and Cokes for that fund raising event.
So if you're planning a vacation schedule, come on out on that weekend, I'd love to see that lot full up again :).

The cruise will happen every wednesday after the Grand Opening,(That is still up in the air due to builders schedules - really don't want to lock down the precise day yet).
Just talked to Jim,The roof is completed and the dry wall is going in, next black paper, chicken wire & stucco. "Getting Closer All The Time".
Hope to see you all there!

I drove by tonight, the doors are on. I took a walk inside after all the drywall board has been nailed up. No echos and it has much of the old feeling. Can't wait till the interior goes in.

    OMG, what a co-incidence - I'm in town on Sept 19th!!!!!

Guys I have a huge favour to ask.

Is anyone going to the grand opening, who could get me from the Broiler to LAX for a 8pm check-in?

I have to catch a 10.30pm flight back to Australia on the 19th. Its just me and 1 peice of luggage.

Kevin, I didn't want to ask you, as I think you'll a) have enough on your plate, and b) you'll have seen enough of me by that stage ;)

It was such a great night alst night I took a cruise out there in my roadster. They are moving along nicely. It is nice to see some of the rock trim in place and the windows up. It is getting so clsoe I cna taste the double deck and malt now. MMMMMMMMMMM Can't wait.

    Kevin:
Back in June you mentioned something about a Grand Opening Fund Raiser. Any details on that? I remember you mentioning it was going to be by invitation only.
