  6. Well I had to show somebody and my wife doesn't give a shit. :D Its the frame I've been working on for my 40 Coupe. I'm going to put the 283 and M20 in it in the next week or so. Run the brake lines, fuel lines, exhaust, etc. Then finally go get the body and put it on.

here's my sister an her husbands 40 opera coupe, they've been working on it for over 20 years now. I figure I'll inherit it an get to finish it. it's beyond meticulous, 67 corvette rear end an motor with a dropped stock front end. it will be a wicked drive

  19. As of Dec 12 2009.

Fueled by beer I decided the frame needed a coat of spray bomb black, after I took the brakes off. I am slowly making progress getting things straightened out. Over the last week I de-skinned the deck lid to get at all the rust. In addition I have been trying to get at every dent and ding with hammers and dollys on the other sheetmetal (hood, fenders, etc...)

I have no idea what's going on with the rear window brace (the plate with the holes in it). It doesn't look like any others I have seen. I think it is a home made piece. There are no beads rolled into it and the holes just don't look right, but they are "belled"/Dimple-Died. I want to cut the bad repair out of the lower cowl area and either find a good lower cowl, or just replicate the stuff myself. I am not ready to throw the $750 in the aftermarket panels just yet. There has to be a solid lower cowl out there somewhere.:p

I sold this father of the Deluxe 39-40 body style (38 Deluxe) 8 years ago to help pay off my home loan. It was a barn car for 40+ years. The older couple that bought it performed a restoration. Model A now fills its place in my garage.

Nice frame pics... it'll be helpful in my trying to figure out all the brackets I'll have to be fabricating... With those wishbones - why not just leave them the way they came? Does it interfere with the transmission mount?

Photo was taken in front of the Historical Ballinger Santa Fe Depot with original red brick road which is now the City Hall for Ballinger Texas. The old 40 still looks pretty good considering it was painted in the early 1970s with acrylic laquer. See photos below of how the car looked last year when I decided to take it out of mothballs and clean it up and get it running and driveable again. It's now been almost one year since I started driving the 40 again. With some modern changes, this past year, it drives better than it ever did in the 1970s. The original 1940 AM Radio still plays.

It cleaned up very good considering it set for 28 years without being washed or started. The 327 CI
Chevy small block engine only had about 60 miles on it when parked. I had a rear coilover suspension installed by someone in in the late 70s. He had the spacing between the coilovers too close together. I was my fault since he just did what I told him to do. When the car went around a corner it leaned over and wouldn't right itself. I had to redo the rear suspension to correct this. The engine sounds great, don't smoke, has very good compression and oil pressure.
I couldn't believe it cleaned up so good and run so good after setting up all those years with no attention. I traded a 1927 T Ford Roadster street rod for this car in 1974. In 1974I prep and painted the body and installed a all out 327 Chevrolet engine. In 1978 I had replaced that engine with a stock 300HP 327 for better drivability just before losing interest in it for a 40 Willys Coupe I raced in Super Gas.

  30. You can buy the transmission plate from Chasis Engineering for a little over a $100 (cant remeber exact amount) but it comes with the bungs to split the bones thats what you see in those frame pics of mine. Its for a Chevy 350Th or a Muncie. The bones have to be heated and bent to line up. I bent mine towards the axle instead of bending them towards the bungs.
