http://www.instructables.com/id/Too-Hot-Remove-heat-from-your-body-with-the-Back-/ I'm looking for ways to keep a friend cooled down at the drags this year. Anyone try anything like this?
Look like it would work to me. Its like an old Desert Cusion (popular in the '50s and '60s) with something added to help it out. Edye wets a rag and lays it across her neck, it works for her and you know how bad she does on the heat.
Should work. Might find something like that at a medical supply. They have warming and cooling "sleeves" for legs and arms. You coulc make one.
I have (under dash A/C) a fan that clips under the dash and runs off the lighter. I put my lighter on the accessories circuit so it comes on and off with the ignition. most parts stores have them down here.
look into a cool shirt- most circle track supply places have them. picture what is on the seat woven into a mesh shirt. the pump is the expensive part...I can't imagine how a fella with enough wherewithall and reasoning couldn't do the same thing on the cheap. That way, your someone wouldn't have to be cooked once out of the car, either!
I use a cool shirt when I race the Vipers. It's the bomb. They do make a pit version that has the pump in a cooler just like what you are looking at. The biggest problem, besides cost, is that as soon as the ice melts and the water warms up it quits cooling. Doc.
Oh and don't foeget that Edye has that little tent thingy and lots of cool water and and ice and rags to wet. Just in case your friend wants to rest a bit at the drags. She's probably going to want to meet your friend anyway.
Doc's right. Some of the guys I used to raod race with used them and when they malfunction, your are sitting on HOT water.... I would recommend a ziplock bag of ice through the front of your suit and when it melts....heave it..... Ebert
Rashy, I will have an enclosed trailer this year. It is not A/C, but I do have a fan in the front that I plan on running. It will not be that much, but if your friend needs to stop and cool off, it is available. Robert
Looks like a good idea! Heres my air conditioning, just completed a 1100 mile trip to Louisville, Ky and back, you just have to keep recharging the coolant at each gas stop, (add ice).
