I've been working on this project for a while.

Top has been chopped 2 1/2 inches.

    Metal work is 95% completed.

    Body work is 95% completed.

    Final mock-up is done.

I disassembled everything in the past couple of weeks and the frame and other chassis parts are going to paint this week.

This car will be a serious driver.

    :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I will be painting the car MIDNIGHT BLUE, with more red than green tones in it.

It will be NON METALLIC SINGLE STAGE paint which I believe is more period correct and is the "look" I want.

The interior will be dark red/maroon leather, traditional tuck and roll.

I looked at a lot of cars for exterior colors and finally found the color I wanted when I saw this car at the Good Guys Pleasanton, CA show a few years back. The color is Blastolene Blue. Many of you may be familiar with this car.

Definitely on my "gotta have" list. With a '38 Delux in the shop I'm thinking that's as close as I'll ever get. The color will be bitchin. Be sure to post pictures of it going back together.

The car will be going for some final metal work next week and then for final body work and paint.

I installed rubber body mounting material on the frame and sealed all the interior seams with epoxy seam sealer.

Did a test fit of the BF Goodrich wide white wall radials and new steel wheels.

    Here's the latest progress report.

All of the metal work has been completed.

99.9% of the body work has been completed.

The body lines are straight, crisp and well defined. All of the secondary work, like the inside of the trunk and lower grille support look great. The grille looks like it's new.

Most of the body is in final primer.

The painter has the blue exterior paint (Dupont ChromaPremier single stage), the maroon interior paint and all other materials to finish the paint job, including Lizardskin ceramic coating for the bottom of the body/floors, running boards and inside the fenders.

    The body is completely disassembled.

The old gal should be wearing NEW paint before the end of the year.

    Here are some recent photos.

I added some extra support to the floors where the seat mounts.

    I love the 36s!

Just a heads up, you may want to pull off a valve cover and check your rockers. We used one of those engines in a 40 and in the process of changing out the valve covers, noticed a couple of the rockers were cracked! Brand new engine, from Roush. I think they were scorpion brand? billet rockers.

    Jonathan,

    Thanks for the heads up!

I will definitely check out the rockers before I fire the engine.

    Where exactly were they cracked?

I was told a couple were cracked around the pivot area. We sent the whole set back to Roush and waited . . . a long time . . . and they sent us a whole new set.

Last week I helped the painter remove the body from the chassis for the LAST time, I hope, and put it on a rotisserie. He will etch prime the bare metal areas on the bottom of the body, then applying Lizardskin to the entire bottom of the body and the inside of all four fenders.

When the Lizardskin has cured the bottom of the body will get a couple coats of exterior blue paint and then we will put it back on the chassis so the rest of the paint work can be completed.

Although most of the metal work on the body was done a while back and I have had the body on and off the chassis many times, this is the first really good look I have gotten at the bottom of the body.

The entire bottom of the body is new sheet metal including an 8 piece rocker/subrail set I got from McPherson Automotive in Kansas. The inner rear fender wells are also new metal. This body is very solid and should last a long time.

It's time to get this old Ford in some new blue paint!
