Well, the coupe has sat for some time now on acount of all the honey do"s and working on the kids cars. I've had the coupe in 2 different colors of primer for about 8 months and got tired of looking at it, so I got out the gun and some POR 15 and went to town on it.
I don't plan on keeping it black, but for now, I think she'll do.

Still trying to get this***** off my hands.

I hope not, POR15 wouldn't like that. It bonds very nicely to bare metal. Which makes me ask. What primer? POR15 is not a primer. The only problems I'v ehas with POR 15 was when there was something besides bare metal, and it likes bare metal with a little surface rust to adhere to. As for getting off your hands. If you didn't get it with their cleaner before it dried then you're looking at scrubbing it off or wearing it off.

thats why I mentioned the TIE COAT the por makes... makes it so you can paint over it over it later. POR is the hardest sanding paint ever.

and those just thinking thats good with out top coating por has HORRIBLE UV protection it gets chaulky but you cant just scuff and reshoot like with dp90. again why I mentioned the TIE coat the POR makes...

por 15 can not be painted over unless you spray a primer or sealer over it before the por 15 flashes...... the reason is the por 15 does not stay porouse t accept the new paint

  14. Yeah, POR15, yer screwed.

POR15 is a one component moisture cure polyurethane prepolymer.
Ud been better using an expoxy primer.

yup we use to sell it ..good luck with that , you just made your self a hell of a mess, .and really... it needs rusty steel to work the best. clean steel is not good for it unless you wash it with there acid wash .that stuff is good for frames and inside trunks. as for your skin. acetone will work wile its still wet ..push that body out side spray the ground with a hose and watch how fast it drys ;)

with out Por 15's "Tie Coat" your up the creek now that it dry

did a receiver hitch with Por 15 and shot a top coat of primer then black enamel over it while it was tacky that worked

    Oh*****
    I learned something new
I didnt know this about POR15
so using it on a frame and than painting it down the road is a no go too?
I have stayed with Enamel Primers on all of my A project so far.
Guess I will stay this route, even on my frame.

    POR 15

    Paint
    Over
    Rust

I was told not to spray it by the dealer that sells it at swaps around here. it will stick to your lungs just like it sticks to your hand.

i dont think you would have to take it all off. I have seen cars coated entirely in POR15 and then painted over without problems and have done the same to a few parts myself.

Keep in mind its dam near impossible to sand

  26. Yeah man, I'm sorry to say... you created more work, more mess, and still are in the woods. You needed to epoxy prime bare metal. Por 15, rusty*****. I personally never use the stuff, I cut rust out. Get rid of the cancer...

Good luck, its only more work.

I better clear up some misconceptions here, I plan on having the coupe media blasted after I get back from vacation, I originally had it coated with the silver POR and it turned green in the sun, I did a little work on the body and had taken off alot of the original coat and it was flashing rather quickly so I used what I had. I know that it may have seemed like a mistake to use the POR but, like I said, I do plan on having it blasted down to bare metal whan I get to that piont.

blasting or dipped. don't know which is gonna be easier. I will say this, it takes an aggressive media to remove POR15, I would worry about the panels with that...

Thanks zman, I was wondering about that myself. I wonder if there is a stripper that may take it off, something like aviation stripper like they use on planes???
I think I'll take an old panel and experiment with it, what do you think?
