The headlight duct idea was taken from the southern S/S racers who were using that method as early as late '61-early '62. Some of the T-Bolt racers in '64 found that the headlight duct idea worked best with a few inches of extension added either by extending forward with tubes or plastic funnels trimmed to fit. Archway Ford and late in the year Gas Ronda. The T-Bolt duct intake was promoted as such fron the beginning.

  9. It looks like those are staging lanes and not the track. Probably just checking on how the tires hooked up with the magic traction compound.

  14. Skip, I thought I had seen every pic there is of Gene's coupe. This is the first one I have ever seen before Larry was driving. Ron De Cicco was the guy who drove after Gene retired from driving. Note the "Ron" above the door. Ron couldn't get the coupe into the 9's to save his butt. Larry's first pass was in the 9.70's. In 97 I asked Gene what the difference was. Gene just said "Larry wasn't affraid of it"!

I always liked the car with the original slpt bones. Thanks for posting this pic. It's going in my collection.

nope, thats Lions, know it like the back of my hand, thats down past the timing tower. Mickey was the manager and this was probably not at an event, and, of course, nothing scared Mickey..probably just messing with the car, getting it shook down, like you said, Rich

This site has brought back so many good memories of my teen years I feel that I need to add what few photos I took and clipped out of newspapers and mags for my donation. I grew up in Scottdale and used to ride my bike up to the main road leading to Beeline Dragway just to see race cars on open trailers during the AHRA winternationals. I was hooked on the sport early and in high school me and a buddy tried to get a sponsor for our junior fuel venture from a friend here in Phoenix. $500.00 for his car and trailer w/o motor. Not much now days, but a sophmore in high school in the early 60s, well that was twice what I paid for my 55 chevy daily driver. OK, here are a couple pics. I will scan more soon. I think the 1st one is the 1st day Beeline was open and I seem to remember it as the Stewart & Estes aa/fueler, but the again that was 45 years ago.
