Great story, Jay! I really enjoyed hanging out with you guys some, and wish I could have more.

Glad to see that everyone made it home safely. Those cars have proven themselves once again.

If you don't mind, I'll add a couple more photos....
(still need to download the rest of them)

Thanks for posting the pic of my 1948 Modernaire teardrop. It was a kick to meet you and Troy and some of the other HAMBers at the salt flats. Hope to do it again next year.

I went out in my late model and promised myself next year I'm taking the roadster even if I drive it Flintstone style. Fortunatly, I won't have as far to go as many of you.

Jay, we stopped for burgers and a shake while we were leaving town. Told them I went to the
salt with you guys. They thought it was pretty cool.

As they ponder........ to chop or not to chop???

What a cool trip!! I was there thru your posts and loved it. Jeff's coupe has been one of my favorite hot rods of all time, our group picked it as our trophy choice at Omaha World of Wheels, it is pure "bad ass". I admire his gutty adventures, going on this trip, The Lone Star Roundup, The H.A.M.B. drags, that "No Fear" slogan was created with the coupe in mind. Thanx for sharing with us!! That stunning shot of the coupe at daylight gave me goose-bumps!! Your Fan, ~Sololobo~

Larry, thanks for the kind words. I wish that I didnt have to get someone all the way Missouri and Kansas to roll with me when I go out of town. We need to get some more local guys out there.

  22. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. Not like being there I'm sure, but it helps us poor souls that couldn't go.
    Thanks again.
    Later,
    Dick

Let me just say this, I headed to the salt hoping to just meet the fellas I have only known online. I went with another local club and some friends. Camped there from Thursday morning on.
Like was mentioned before, the salt was perfect and I was once again in awe.

Still in awe the festivities commenced whilst the friends I came with got hammered.
Not that I don't like fun, but too much is too much. We actually had an operational TIKI bar setup with torches and a neon palm tree.
Friday night there was easily 150 people partying way into the night/morning.

Early Saturday morning I headed to the showers. I noticed this bitchin' 40 with the invisible hood along with THE 32 highboy. I knew immediately that the 40 belonged to El Presidente' the Greezy bastard himself.
On the way back, nice and clean, I made the stop in to their camp. I know I startled them and they didn't know who I was. Me and the chebby rolled up and out of the drivers side I said " Hello Mr President". Troy turned around coolly and said, Hi Brant.

He knew it was me. The "other" fella I didn't know and him like wise, thinking "who is this lame ass calling troy Mr. President." Troy introduced me to Jay, who said he was Nosurf. Nosurf! I had yakked with him many times in the chat.

I was so nervous and giddy like a school girl goin to the prom. In the flesh were the members of the club I belonged to whom I had never met in person. I bid them farewell and headed back to my camp.

On to the salt was just like everyone else said. Saturday night........Crazy and silly.
Troy and Jay made the trek across the camping grounds to the TIKI bar and watched the silliness progress. I too was standing there sober and watching. We met up and talked for awhile until some dude who was so wasted and obviously had been abandoned with his dog not of this group, asked if we wanted to be stabbed.
    I said yes...

The next morning was Sunday and the wild ones left and left me. I must say I was relieved. Not knocking my friends, but C'mon I was there to enjoy the salt and all things mechanical trying for records. My friends were more interested in recovering from hangovers just in time to tie another one on. I don't think they actually made it to the salt.

Fast forward. I showed up lost and alone, the royalty in the VB camp let me join. I say this in jest, but in reality it was at least to me like we had hung out before many times. Troy, Jeff, Donovan, and Jay, these guys are top shelf.

The rest of the story is just as Jay showed it, only for me, I got to come away with some new old friends, making this the best trip yet.

For the rest of you guys procrastinating and wishing to go, I can't describe it well enough. I can only insist that you make the trek. There is no other event that you will ever encounter that is as impacting, the experience will change your life.

    Thanks Jay, Troy, Jeff, Donovan.
