Help! wifes gonna kille me..How do you get overspray off a car!

I was painting some stuff(rattle can) in my garage and got some overspary on my wifes new car. She gets back in town tommorow and I need to pull a ferris bueller and fix it before she finds out. any ideas would be appreciated!

 

Usually turpentine will take rattle can paint right off. Be sure to wax the affected areas afterwards.

 

compound or cleaner wax and elbow grease (and a prayer).

 

A clay bar should work.

Taake it out and get it detailed.No time factored.You can even tell her you sent the car out and got it detailed. She will appreciate that you cared.I should write a book.And you might get laid

 

Clay bar should do it no problem.

 

Same thing happened to me. Clay bar took it right off. Be sure to wax afterwords though.

 

Clay bar it if it's a new car. Or take it to a detail shop for a polish. Then you can surprise her with a freshly detailed car.

 

Thanks guys, Im going to try the clay bar tonight. If all else fails Ill drop it off at a detailer on Monday on my way to work.

 

b-12 carb cleaner..ive used it pleny of times on several things..it takes only the spray paint off and doesnt damage the cars paint..ive done it several times on the same spot even and only did what i wanted it to do

 

This might work for you, it worked for me with 1-shot 2 days ago.

supplies:
Easy Off oven cleaner (yellow can, about $5)
paper towels
plastic bags
masking tape
rubber gloves
clean rag

directions:
tape off any plastic/rubber areas that may absorb the spray.
spray the affected area, and then place a paper towel on top. spray the paper towel on top of the area.
take the plastic bags and tape it over the paper towel
wait 10-15 minutes
wipe away with a clean rag.
repeat as necessary and buff it out.

i know it works for removing 1-shot, so you may try it with your over spray. remember to use gloves, i wish i did, my fingertips are all nasty now.

 

Holy bejesus, it's just a bit of overspray. Good grief, all you have to do is to spray some WD40 on a rag and dab it on the overspray, wait a few minutes and just rup it off. You don't even have to rewax as the spot will more than likely be shinier than the rest of the car. KISS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

 

clay bar works I did the same thing to my wifes car.You have to wax it after.

This guy nailed it. I'm not even remotely trying to sound like a dick, but if you need to ask this question, I'm assuming you are not familiar with compound or clay bars. Either of those will fix you up......If you are short on the cash and can't swing the detail shop, use the claybar....because I'm also assuming you don't do too much high speed buffing. Anyway, best bet is to pop out the 100 bucks and get it the car lookin spiffy. She'll think you're amazing, and prolly return the thanks by sexual favors. Hell, you even might get a steak dinner out of it. It's a win win brother.

 

Your not going to believe this, I learned this from an upholstery guy. Take a rag (do this outside) put a small amount of Gasoline on it, and rub it out. Then wash and wax. Get the doghouse ready.

 

Yep, you can make it a lot worse yourself, and since you asked, that is more likely than not.
Pay for the detail, it will make you remember the next time you pop the top on a spray bomb.......

A rag lightly saturated with acetone will quickly remove rattlecan overspray, then. BTDT.
If the paint underneath the overspray won't hold up against acetone, it wasn't worth a dime anyways. It's simple like that, coming down to Darwin once more. Survival of the fittest.

I use lacquer thinner on a rag, but the clay bar works wonders.

 

The Detail shop, is going to use the clay bar, so why can't you? It ain't rocket science.

 

Your screwed, no matter how clean you get it she will know. When it come to cleaning something, it is never good enough in a woman's eyes. Believe me I know.

 

Cripes man, what kinda women are you all married to that you have to sneak around and /or lie to about this kinda stuff?

 

WD 40 or mineral spirits. The other solvents might be kinda iffy if there was paint repair work done at the factory or dealer.

 

just about anything will take off fresh spray can overspray.

in your case you are probably best off with the wd 40 method and a quick rewax.

the clay bar works excellent, i use them all the time, but they are around 40 samolies, plus you need the lube for it

I stripped the paint off 55 gallon drums using Easy Off....... DO NOT get that shit on your wifes car!
