DW, BUZZARD, and a few local geniuses got together last Saturday to tinker a bit with DW's tune... I didn't make it, but my camcorder and tripod did.

    A quick tease...

This thing has fine manners on the street but I'm looking to set it on KILL for the track.

Unfortunately, we killed the O2 sensor on the second pull so w/ no lambda readings from the machine, we were left to read plugs for jetting & timing.

We were able to find optimal timing but we believe we hit the ceiling on the fuel pump. After repeated jetting to try to keep her fat, we just couldn't feed her. Not suprising though.....13.77 lbs. of boost w/ a 110 gph mech. fuel pump....yeah right!

That said, we only pulled it to 5900rpm. I always shift near 7000.

At the end of the day we realized 476.61hp / 429.08 torque @ 5900. It was still climbing w/ no signs of dropping off & I don't run out of cam till 6500. We just didn't feel safe taking it to 7K w/o a genuine air/fuel reading.

We will go back & try again to sneak up on it a little further. I put a larger fuel pump on it so I feel a little better about beating on it @ the HAMB drags. We aren't done tuning but we are headed in the right direction & we learned lots. There is definatly more power there, we just gotta throw more gas @ it to find it.

Our good buddy Phil Clarkson @ Auto Tek here in town was most gracious lending us his time & his skills. Thanks again man. If any of you local guys want to go faster, go see Phil. He will take good care of you.

Hmmm...very interesting...What is your compression ratio, and what is your optimum total timing??

I'm looking forward to drinking beer and picking your brain for some new found dyno knowledge.

Ass kicking video by teh way. -Abone.

    Mr.Bean hahaha!!!!!!!!
Hey Jeff, I had her locked out @ 36 but I pulled 4 deg. & it made more power......too a point, & then we started running out of fuel so........again, I need to feed it more gas & then see how much more advance I can give it w/o detonation.

More gas to keep up w/ the boost will certainly help. As for timing, we are always taught that "blowers love advance", but I'm learning that as you spin it tighter, its good to pull some away w/ boost.

I run a msd boost timing master & while it does work, it is not so subtle or precise. It will retard ign. timing....x deg. per lb. of boost, up to 15 degrees. All fine & good but @ 14-15 lbs of boost, I don't think I wanna retard it that much.

We played w/ setting the btm knob on .5 & it didn't do***** as far as moving the timing mark/blueline on the ground electrode of the plug. May be I can apply pressure to the msd btm w/ a handheld pressure gauge & check it w/ a timing light to see just how finely adjustable it is or not.

Will I need to take the ign. timing back up to 36 or more after I can get it more fuel? I dunno, maybe. I'll just have to tinker more & see.

More fuel, and better fuel. I still think that you were held back by the gas you had in there. Bump up the fuel volume and octane, and give it a few more degrees in timing. Free horsepower.

    Tell 'em about the hats.

Yeah, we were running Vp c12 w/ a motor octane of 108 (ron118). Perhaps when we find what seems to be the limit, we can feed it more octane & timing? Hmmm......

    About the hats/air scoops...........I'm running some cal-custom 40-40's & they look kick**** (I think)

During the course of tuning, we found a considerable increase in hp/torque by removing these from the carbs. This simple change alone found............

    ..........wait for it..........................................

    76 horsepower!

With the restriction removed, boost climbed from 12.58psi to 13.77psi & we started to run outta gas.

What do they say about the price to look cool ???
For 76 ponies I'd trade them out for the track runs that's for sure.

Kick**** dw. I have those same scoops on mine. They do look killer! Maybe when you are doing 120 they don't kill the power. Thanks for sharing. Have fun at the drags. Can't wait to hear what u and abone turn. Kerry too.
