Hello all... Im trying to figure out what dropped axle I should Buy for my 1951 F-1. I think that is the route I want to go, to lower the truck. There seems to be many different Companys selling these axles. What do you Recomend? Heres a pic of the truck as it sits now...
Try www.droppedaxles.com The website is called nostalgia sids he does every drop from model T's to straight axle fords in the 60's. Also does dodge and chevy axles. I am going to get an axle from him later this year for my F1. Thanks Mark(oldiron73).......
Give sid a call at droppedaxels,he may allready have one dropped for your truck. He was a pleasure to work with.Burl.
You send your old axle for exchange or dropping. If they have a dropped one in stock they'll ship it after checking yours for starightness and wear(kingpin bores). That's the way Mor-Drop used to do it.
Check out this thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320631 He's done what you want to do, and explaines it well. X2 on the droppedaxel.com, I've heard nothing but praise. Jeff
All good advise....but what about the axles they sell from say...Sacramento Vintage Ford...are those type axles any good? They sell a 3" Drop for $450.00
I went with Sids and Im very happy with it.A few friends did as well and no problems.the ones from Sac Vintage are three pieces welded together I believe(and more expensive) so may not be as solid as a good old Ford dropped axle.Plus it looks right under the truckGood luck
Looks like your current springs are in newer condition, my truck has the posies duoleafs in the front and you can see where it sets. I have a dropped axle from Sids waiting to go in. I think your gonna need the combination spring and axle to get down.....
I got my axle from Sid and it arrived quickly and he answered any questions I had before hand. Highly recommended. I went with a 3" axle and posies springs, dropped me about five inches over all. Make sure you get the tie-rod drops, you'll need them.
I called SID, hell of nice guy...but he said he is going for surgery and wont be able to do anything for me until mid November. I guess I will have to wait. If that is the route I want to take...I here the Posies Springs can get the truck down 3+ inches in the front. Thats about what Im Looking for.
The stock rear axle is under the springs so blocks would lift it. Other rear options: -Move the axle to the top of the springs -Flip the rear spring hangers -Move the spring hangers up on the frame -Remove every other leaf spring
I had my F100 axle dropped 2" by "loudpedal" (Kris Elmer) and he did a hell of a job for a price that no one else could match. He dropped the arms, blasted, magnafluxed, and painted everything too... I couldn't have been happier! Check the pics...
I am going to put my springs under the axle on my F1 just like they are on my 51 Ford car. You just need to get some spring pads and weld them on the bottom side of the axle. Easy way to lower your truck, that's the route I am going. If I want or need to go lower I will put blocks in, depending how low I want to go.
The Posies springs will drop it 2-3" from "stock height", after almost 60 years your stock springs may have weakened enough that once you put the Posies on you might only drop another inch or worse raise the truck. That's not to say don't get them, mine definitely rode better than before when it only had leafs removed. But, you may or may not see the ride height you expected.
Sid called me back.....with a 3" dropped axle! I ordered it....Front end Is all torn apart, Ready for the axle...Should arive on Monday....I plan to give her some new Bearings, King pins...Break job...considering I am allready in there...Ill post some pics when i Get it done.... Thanks for sending me his way....Now I can get this thing down in a cool way.
Sid had one allready dropped. If You send him your axle he will drop it for $300. I wanted to keep my original axle...so he adds $50 for a core....So I bought an axle for $350+ $35 for shipping + I bought the tie rod drops for $60. So I paid a total of $445.
hey guys for the rear drop if i put the axle on top of the springs wont i need to c notch it? and the truck i just bought has perchs on top and bottom is that factory?
