Like I said "you can never go too low":D I couldn't stand being in the nosebleed section. Had to go with bags. Kevin Francis and crew at KA Customs in Huntington Beach CA. gets all the credit. 4 link in the rear, stock a-arms up front put my merc on the frame. Can't go any lower unless I dig a hole!:D Hell Yes!!!!!! -stick

Eyeball, is the Jamco shackle kit use to get rid of the U shaped bracket that the shackle mounts to?
I have a 57 ford it has the same exact U shaped mounts, I removed two springs and have 3" blacks and now my spring are sagged dearched, so I'm lookng fo a solution for the rear to have a lowered look but haave a good rider still.

What size are these square tubes? And is this the only thing you have to do to lower the front? Thanks :D

Mine has Durant,4" mono-leafs and 4" blocks on the back. Plan on putting bags on the back, just to lift it for driveways and p***angers. The front has a '70 T-bird clip, with 2 coils cut off. Just got some Camaro coils,so I can raise the front about an inch, for clearance. Rides like a dream! In the pictures,I have about 40lbs. of air in the airshocks. It goes about 2" lower.
    Abe Lugo,
When you flip the shackle, the springs stay in the same place, but you remove the loop. You have to weld a peice of pipe through the middle of the frame, for the rubber bushings. This gives you about 3" more of clearance. The loop sticks below the frame about 3". Mine drags all the time. I haven't flipped mine yet.

I'm gonna give this thread a bump first off to resurrect a great thread, and second off, to ask any of the guys that posted saying they had cut front coils out of their coil springs...How many coils did you cut out? Thanks guys!

  14. here's the difference between the stock cut (too low) and the new 2" lowering coils from vehicle spring service.

Those blocks appear to be 1" box,, looks a little thin. We used 1" by 1 1/8"x 1/8" thick,,, cut one coil and got 4 1/2 drop.

The blocks are easy to make and install and I bolted them on and then welded them too. Overkill but makes me feel better.

2 1/2inch drop FatMan spindles with 2inch drop DetrotSpring coils in the front . 3inch blocks with 3inch drop DetrotSpring leafs in the rear. It sits nice but I'll need to C the frame and raise the tunnel . It would have saved $$ to use spacers on the front instead of the drop spindles . Also , I found a great local spring shop in SantaAna CA "Deavers" Next time I'll use Deavers , there local and have been in bussiness for 100years ,, they use to be a blacksmith shop.
I'll post some daylight pictures when I get my 51 skirts and hubcaps on .

Throwing this back to the top again....

You guys that put spacers in your lower control arms... how does that affect your ride? If you put in a 1 1/4 spacer, do you have to change the shocks out? I'd prefer to lower mine this way rather than cut the coils... but I want to get it all figured out ahead of time.

Anyone know how far you can go in back until you need to cut the driveshaft tunnel?

On the front you can go with the AIRRIDE TECHNOLOGIES kit, and FATMAN FAB. drop spindles. It would sit like this. The rear is up to you. Mine has a four link and large bags to get it off of the ground

Not a Merc but an Olds. This by the way is the wrong way to lower a car!

I tried them but they float around in the spring pocket until you bring the car back to earth. I wouldn't recommend using them but its your car.

I thought if you use the springs you need to get shorter shocks so it wouldnt do this?

I thought I'd resurect this thread. I'm about to lower my 51' Merc. I was thinking of going with Jamco stuff. 4" springs in the rear with 2" blocks for a total of 6". Then 2 1/2" dropped spindles with 2" lower springs up front for 4 1/2" total. I want a little rear rake. I want it to be driveable. C-notch is probably a must, but I really don't want to raise the drive shaft tunnel b/c the interior is all new. Any thoughts or suggestions before I get started would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !!

sounds like a tunnel under the rear seat is a must plus a c-notch in the frame... Do you guys have any info on flipping the front spindles? Is it just as simple as flipping them, drivers side to p***enger side upside down??? Swear I saw a post where someone said they can be flipped.

Won't work. Ford spindles and components are different size than Merc. Not interchangeable.
