When you stop by The Kennedy Brothers Shop (for me, its just around the corner) you never know who, or better yet, WHAT will be there:

What a treat it was to see the the iconic Super Bell '32 pull up. You just never know.

Thats another one of those "cool because its famous" cars. If it was just some obscure early '80's build and that was the first time anyone had ever seen it it would be trashed. It's notoriety and pedigree are what makes it cool.

One of the most famous 33/4 coupes ever. Remember when Jim Ewing drove it with Pete & Jake back to the first NSRA Nats in 1970 ?
    Awesome car - very Iconic.

I love that car, always have. The nose is so ugly it's cool. If it'd been built with a regular '33 / '34 nose then it'd be just another 70's rod.

Seems like there's an article on it in a 70's HRM (Baskerville wrote it?) saying Ewing's coupe was built from a rusty old Bonneville car. Jim Jacobs supposedly "obtained" it from some unknown swap meet for like 50 bucks. Lol.

I was shocked last year when it showed up in a Wal Mart parking lot on a Saturday night. It is owned by Frank M( don't know his HAMB name ) here in the Baltimore area. One of several great pieces he owns.
I guess you can bash it if you want but it was in a display at the Peterson earlier this year with 3 other 34 coupes.....Califonia Kid, Jakes yellow 34 with the truck grill and ZZ tops eliminator coupe. Pretty dam good company if you ask me.....but you didn't ask....my 2 cents

Royal, I would remove your testicles for that car too. I've always liked it, but it would look much cooler in bare metal and smaller rubber in the rear. Like a real salt flat special. Steven.

Just yesterday I was thinking what a lousy jerk I was for not liking this car. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

So we all have different tastes, that's what hot rodding is all about...I really like the car, nose and all, though I also miss the Moon disks.

    Nope, not the only one.
The nose strikes me as trying too hard to be something it's not. I'm guessing major cooling issues as well.

    Nice car though.

The nose of that car reminds me of one of the reporterettes on one of the local TV news shows. Her nose looks just like that. Freaky.

Yet, I like that car somehow. Different. I agree - it needs the aluminum wheel discs on it.

I remember that car from back when. Liked it then, still looks good to me.

Not real sure about giving up a testicle for it, however!

Lots of ugly on that car.....

  23. For the sake of accuracy, the coupe was at the NHRA Museum as part of the 75th Anniversary of the '34 Ford.

For anyone who doesn't remember the coupe, or doesn't get its design, it's your loss.

Everything on that coupe is right; the chop, stance, wheels and even the nose. An American hot rod icon. You young guys who live at home in your Mom's ba*****t just can't appreciate the status of this car.

With the Moons ---- yummy! Those make the car!

Pretty sure I wouldn't give up a testicle for it, though, but I'd gladly donate a little finger and/or little toe for it, no doubt!

It did have cooling issues -- originally had a small block, but overheated so small block got replaced by a Buick V-6.

Can't we just agree to disagree?

    Yeah, the chop is fine.

Nope, it looks like a cartoon.

They're okay, but they look like they belong on a Mach I Mustang or a 2nd Generation Camaro.

Nope, the nose is the absolute worst track nose ever. It's only better by comparison to the smoothie, billet '33 grilles with extra swoop that became so popular shortly after this car was built.

Agreed, 100%, but that doesn't make it pretty.

The status of this car is based on its longevity, the hoopla it received in the automotive press of the day (which I remember from when I was a kid - even though I'm a young guy), and the fact that Jim Ewing has p***ed away. I agree with the poster who said that if it were a brand-new build nobody would like it.

By your criteria Boyd's early builds should be given deep respect too, after all, they were a big deal when new and they're almost 30 years old now. Big deal.
