New From California

Hi Everybody!!

After a lot of lurking, I finally decided to go ahead and introduce myself.

I've loved cars and motorcycles ever since I can remember, with most of my passion initially instilled by my dad (though I'm not sure he realized what he caused). My parents first date was to the drag races, and my first Life-Changing Car Moment was seeing a top fuel car down at the Pomona Raceway. And so began a long obsession with cars (and later motorcycles) that has continued to this day.

A few months ago, I finally picked up my first old car of my own: a 1955 Dodge Coronet 2 door hardtop. The car is in excellent condition for the most part, and mostly original. Still the 6V system and has a 270 Poly; runs great for the most part!! I'm really just getting started on the whole thing, and have no specific "vision" for the car: I'm slowly going through things and trying to solve problems as they arise, while trying to learn as much as I can in the process. My awesome boyfriend and best friend has spent most of his life around old cars and has been a lot of help. I'm sure he'll be joining us on here soon, as well.

Already there have been a few "learning experiences" and times stuck on the side of the road, but it's been a lot of fun! It's amazing what your senses can tell you when you have an old car: does it smell right? does it sound right? does it look right? They speak to you in a way that new cars never will. Sometimes they speak to you and say, "And now I will leave you stranded!!" But that's all part of it.

Anyway, so far I love this site and I've found a lot of great information on here, which has already helped me with a couple of issues. I can't wait to learn more, and I've really enjoyed hearing all the stories.

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. When things get frustrating or discouraging, I try to look back and remember what it felt like to lust after everyone else's car from the sidelines and not have anything of my own to work on and drive. And yes, good advive: it's supposed to be fun!
