Nicely done. Looks like it's gonna be low, but still have enough ground clearance to be able to go most places. I'm wondering why the engine was set so high? Looking from here it seems setting the engine down a few inches wouldn't create a pan to pavement conflict and you'd gain a little better C.G.
How low would you suggest the engine should be? The pan is already 5.5" off the ground, and the alternator is only about 1.5" from the frame rail, and the bottom of the frame rail at the fire wall around 5" off the ground.
Thanks Bob! I'll make sure the guys read this. They'll really appreciate it. We're all anxious to hear the dyno numbers!!! Frame looks great black. Do you think you guys will make the Pile UP?
That's about as low as I'd want to go. My 32 is 6" off the ground at the engine pan and one collector is 5 1/2" off. Never dragged on speed bumps, driveways etc. Looking from here it seemed the engine would end up overly high, but not so I see. Fwiw - I have been seeing builds where the engines have been set overly high and I'm guessing that it was done for looks. Wasn't a criticism, just wondering. Really nice build....
Plan on painting it gold with a black cloth top. Still undecided about the shade of gold it should be... Also plan on painting alot of the interior not to cover up the nice sheetmetal work...leaning towards alot of gold with black hilights.
Kevin, not sure about making the Pile Up. I'm sure the car won't be done by then. Ryan starts school at the Univ. of Cincinnati on Sept. 23rd. We are still considering taking a ride up maybe with the 55 or my 29 or even the 49. Will only be Laura and I though. Ok. As for the dyno numbers.... the engine is pretty much stock, we were having distributor problems and Hot Heads is sending me another one. The bottom plate inside the distributor came loose. We still were able to get it running but not 100%. You can hear a little popping when its running. Also, it is way over carbureted, 2 edelbrock 500 cfm's is just too much for that engine according to Bob @ Hot Heads. And it shows, it would just really bog down if you punched it. We pretty much ran off the back carb of most of the pulls, and had the front carb come in just over 4k rpm's. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o> </o> With that being said it made 320 hp @ 5500 rpm and 325 lb/ft @ 3600 rpm Bob @ Hot Heads said 6000 is ok but the valves start floating about 6200 rpm's. We didn't take it over 5500. Not bad, I'm sure those numbers will improve when we get the new distributor on and the right carb combo. Over all we are pretty satified with the results. With the weight of the car and the chassis set up I think it will be fine.
You could solve that with a mag. Call my buddy Len Hughes at Hughes Magnetos in Indiana. 574-293-6688. Tell him everything you can about the motor (cam, compression, etc.). I'm sure he could help you out. Perhaps a rare-earth mag making 3-4 amps would help. A little more fire in the cylinder to burn more of the fuel. Did you guys jet down the carbs? Perhaps a healthier cam? Or perhaps a 3x2 with three Rochester 2GC's from Automotion? That's what we ran on Back Seat Betty's 325. The numbers look great though for too much carb and a bad dizzy. Try the mag, you'll be happy you did.
Kevin, you are right on.....as usual! Have the 3 dueces on my 55 we were thinking about swapping them out with the dual quads. Looking at alot of options now. Thinking maybe Continentaljohn might have something interesting he might want to part with? Ha Ha. Hot Rod Carburation out of Missiouri has kind of an interesting up twin Duece setup for the 325.
DROOL..............MUST HAVE....................DROOL Once again the HAMB produces some amazing looking fab work to drool over and admire, now if I could just get a project on the ball.........
We finally got it on the road! Took it to Goodguys Southeast Nationals in Charlotte NC for its first outing. Receive the LOW LID PICK! It was awesome!
We walked around and around your sedan at Charlotte, I didn't realize I was looking at this one!I loved the color , what is it? I liked the seats in it too. Car was just right, and made me come across the field to look at it. Best thing down there for me!
Love the pose of father and son with the car. Love those huge grins. Well earned, guys. Thanks for letting us watch.
Thank You! The color is PPG Pot of Gold...It looks Gold in the pics but has alot of green in it in the sun.
Does not flex much at all...We've only driven it about 2 miles so far...just got it done for Charlotte...literally drove it out of my garage and onto the trailer and took it to Charlotte. The time we did drive it though it was awesome. Extremely responsive and handled very well..only had it up to 70 MPH and let go of the wheel and it went straight as an arrow. Stops straight also...couldn't be happier.
Wow, just read the entire thread- awesome! What a great color choice. I thought it might end up a blaring gold, but this is just perfect. I hope your kids know how lucky they are!
That turned out being a jaw dropper. Amazing fabrication, great color scheme. Awesome story behind it too, always wish my father were into cars.
