First 3 are in Elko, Nevada, on the way back from Bonneville last Monday. Aircraft tail logo is at Wendover Airport museum, Utah. http://www.wendoverairbase.com/home
The tiki sign was outside of Colusa up in northern California. I need to check the notes for the exact town - sorry about that. Was your friend the one with the huge spray-foam tiki head/bar? If so it was incredible. Love how at night the smoke poured out of the lit eyes!
I love neon and Vegas is the capitol of classic neon. Especially since cities all across the U.S. are tearing it down on a daily bases...
Doo Dah in the fifties was something else when it came to signs. I remember laughing passing the Killion gas stations, not only the name but the fresh gas thing just cracked me up! In the Big Bun pic you can't see the drive up area, the car hops on roller skates, or the curb to curb cool cars in the parking lot trust me they were there. Carrie
Yosemite U Save - Modesto, California. Interesting attempt at replacing the neon tubing with rope light.
In downtown LA in the '50s, loved to eat there as a kid. alway seemed so special back then. I think it is still open, but wouldn't be the same now...
