I know a few guy's that worked at Sam's place back then, but don't see them often. I work at a Sunoco on Dewey Ave wich is only one street over from lake so a lot of the neighborhood guy's still come in....Honestly the chances of them remembering one car during a time period when muscle car's ruled this area might be along shot..
If i run across one of them, and can remember to i'll ask...
But i have a feeling it'll be a slim chance..
72 is too new for the contents of this place so i'm not sure you'll get a lot of help in finding anything else out..
    Best of luck.

a bit east of you guys, but anyone have any info/pic's etc. from back in the day of the 'original' utica/rome speedway in vernon ny? it's a dirt circle track now [maybe it always has been?], but i heard it used to have a drag strip [maybe 1/8th mile] in it at one point in time?

figured i'd post something in here, as it's kinda close, and maybe someone had some pic's from this area's tracks? [central ny]

"By the way, Marshall Law was the best. Those gigantic wheelstands were just awe inspiring. I wonder whatever happened to that little Falcon convertible. It would really be a find to resurrect that beast." qouted

Last I new the car sat on Latta rd near Manitou. The guy who had it had bought my uncles old race car trailer when he bought a new one. Now this is back in the mid 80's. It is reported that the mans wife cought him in some funny buissness and she had the car & trailer s****ed. If its true or not, i dont know. I do know that i saw the car there and on the trailer, then it was gone.

I know i'm opening up an old Thread, but I just joined after finding out about it from Matt Shaft. Dose anyone remember my uncles from the late 60's - the 70's, The Stiner Brothers? They ran a 55' Chevy G***er then a 67' Camaro Altered, (was crashed at Empire in 75') then another Camaro G***er. Roger (aka Stiger, Roger Doger) was the driver, mechanic & Gary (Bear) was the money man. Man do i miss thoes days. My uncle Roger just came back out this year (8/15/09) with a 55' Chevy i had bought for the paper work for my 55' i had back High School 84'. He ran at NYIRP with the G***er Gang. I run up there every week with my 70' Chevelle and my kids run Jrs.

I would relly like to find old photos or better yet film from back then at Empire, Spencers, Niagra, Lancaster, Jackson / Kings drag way. I have some from my Late uncle Kenny who was the only one smart enough to take pictures back then, LOL. I will try and post some up soon.

Moparron426, I think there are some of your Austin (Oddys old car) that i saw on your photo shop.

    Thanks Killer Ken

    Some more good ones.

Tom Tobins 68' Super Stock Camaro, Ardella Bros Anglia, Steve Harbs "State of the art Camaro at the time" at Spencer's, John Markel's Hot & Nasty, His son races Jr's with us and he said his father still has the car as well as a Vaga & older rear Engine Rail, Heres One of Marshall Law at Spencer's, Photo by Ron Rigby, he started to take Pics in 83' at Spencer's so i think these are of the last guy who owned it that had bought my uncles old trailer, Heres a great shot of a Tee at Empire, check out the Tower, the Tree, the Lane markers and no wall! The last one is from the Car show at the War Mamorial of the WCMF Camaro, A friend of the family, Jimmy Rollio had the car and he moved to Las Vages in the 80's and took the car as well as his 64' or 65' Nova Street racer, Dont know if he still has it? He had Case's old gas station on the cornner of Bay & Goodman in the 70's, Then "Papa" Bruce Stanton (aka "The Auto Stop") has had that same location since, I worked there when i was 16 - 24 off & on, till i got smart & became a Plumber! LOL.

Goen to bed, will post more, i wish i could put up more than 7 pic's at a time!

Hey moparron426, i just looked though your pic's a little better, I remember that chopped top van at the auto show Down town Rochester, at the War Mamorial. I was there on Sunday night when they used to let every one drive the cars out. If i remember right you were doing burn out on State street! Man those were the days of real car shows!
I will post up some more as well as the ones i have of your austin. See ya later.

Now that i'm not tired anymore heres the 3 i have, at least i think it the same car? Also a shot of Berni O's old Modified Production 69' Camaro as it is now, still being raced at Spencers, dont remember the guys name, My uncle Roger's 55' he has now My old car, shoulda kept it, My late uncle Kennys pit p*** from Empire 75', Me (dark hair) & My late cousin Bryan at the Car show Early 70's in front of Cagnita's front engine Dragster, my uncles were going to buy it but then they went with the 67' altered Camaro, Dumb ***'es! Cagnita's was right on the corrner of Norton & culver, its a Wilson Farms now, The house right next to it was my Grandparents, its still in the family, The next one is of My uncle Roger doing his Hippy look, & uncle Gary in the back ground, early 70's at i think Jackson or Niagra in front of the 55' with a 336ci with hilbourns, 4 speed & olds rear end. Would love to find the car. He said they sold it to a guy up towards Buffalo way? Anybody, dose it look familer?

Man those are some cool old pics..

Yeah those were the days, car guys were happy to have a car at the february car show after a long cold winter, I had the throttle stick going down Broad st the year I had Oddys austin made a 100mph p***, man that was a hand full with no front brakes:eek:

I only did a small burnout with the chopped van pulling out, I only had some junk carbs on it because the chrome shop that had my good carbs burned down with my carbs.

you got any Pics of Snoopys old thames panel(lime green anglia panel)? Ron...

Welcome to the HAMB, Killer Ken!

Thanks for posting the great nostalgic pics. I don't live too far from Manitou & Latta Rds. I don't ever recall seeing the car & trailer, but then too, I don't get out much! :D

In downtown Houston TX there was a Studebaker dealership decades ago. The building was razed to make a parking lot but the original showroom floor with the huge inlaid tile Studebaker wheel emblem is still there being pakred on by generation after generation of Houston downtown working folk. How about yours?

Heres another Marshall Law, by Ron Rigby. Another pit p*** from Empire front & back. Puff & Stuff, Zakia's Opel, Gor-Den's Opel, Sammy Dagnolo's 67' Camaro, he still has the car & his son Pete now drives, watch out for this kid, he's good, just like the old man!

Hey Matt, Hey are you coming to the Jr Dragster Shootout this weekend up at Empire? Err i mean NYIRP? I talked to Bruse today, i'm trying to get him out there on sunday as he has a wedding on sat. Do you have a golfcart or something for him to ride? He cant walk to much and thats whats stoping him from coming. I told him you may come up with your kid to race. Did you get ahold of Warrens dad? (forgot his name). Call Bruse & bust his chops, he needs to come out after all he is a sponsor, lol.
    See you there. Ken

I wish they would go back to the old Empire Dragway name. Just sounds cool. Current name is a mouthful and does not invoke any sense of what happens there.

  23. I grew up there and still call it Empire. Once in a while I will say "The old Empire Dragway". The new name is just too darn long, and NYIRP ends up NYRP. Sounds like the sound I make after good Chinese food.
    Start a pe***ion, I'll sign it.

Wow what a thread, my brother just called and told me about it so I hope you dont mind that I joined. My name is Nick and I grew up in Rochester and was street racing in the 60's and 70's on Lake Ave and the local spot to hang out was just west of the inner loop on East Main and University.
To answer a question that was asked about 5 pages ago, the name of the owner of the 427 Caprice wagon was Robert Poli, yes he was a Knife shop owner. I dated his daughter at one time. Yes I lived in Greece off Maiden Lane for many years then moved to Dewey and Stone area and then to the Latta Rd and N Greece rd until 1984. In fact moparron426 was a neighbor.
Can anyone tell me what happen to a guy named Zeilinski and his Roadster?
I wish I still had the pictures of the cars that I took at Niagara and at Spencer from 1967 on, they were tossed years ago. The pictures posted in this thread brought back many memories and I am glad that I am visiting Rochester next month to see the changes but my first stop on the way to my familys home is going to at Nicks, I have to have a garbage plate!!!

Anyways i wanted to say Hi!

    Nick,
I'm on the SW corner of English & North Ave. If you'd like, stop by, have a beer and meet a new friend when you're back here! I'm almost always back in the barn.

Tucson? Coming back to Rot-n-chester? Wear your woolies!!:D

That 427 wagon is sitting at GM's museum/collection in Detroit. We were up there a couple years ago for the Autorama and I took some shots of it....I didn't take a shot of the window sticker (on the driver side p***enger door window) but I'm fairly certain the car came out of a Rochester dealer.
