Hot Rods What have you done to a daily driver to make it more "hot rod"???

  1. Just to make the non-rodders in my life scratch their heads...

I took the original shift knob off of my 95 Dakota pickup (that is eventually going to be the donor frame & drivetrain for my 49 Dodge pickup project) and added a big ol' shifter handle that I found in a junkyard once. I think that it's from a Ford pickup, but who knows. I used three hose clamps to hold it into place and get the strangest stares from people at traffic lights...

I put a blower on my '91 Ford Festiva with some trick ladder bars.

I would just rather drive my Hot Rod to work everyday. I am working towards that goal with my '35.

Nothing screams "hot rod" more than that shifter. Unless of course it might be vinyl graphic flames or fake bullet holes.

That shifter doesn't scream hot rod...it screams rat rod. Hose clamps, really? At least weld the*****er on.

Thing I did to my old daily to make it more "hot rod" was to shove an overbuilt 455 olds in my '84 delta88 4 door and painted some stripes down the hood with the olds rocket emblem in relief. 450hp and 520 ft/lbs was pretty fun in that car :D

I touched the engine block of my new truck once and it was hot. I can only****ume that the rods inside were also hot. There we go, something to bump this thread so it can get closed now.

I lowered my S10 and also louvered the hood. I used to run spun moons on it but they refused to stay on.

We haven't had a useless thread in a while, huh? Does a Rat Fink sticker on my snowmobiles count?

I hung FUZZY DICE from the rear view mirror!!! Man it will lay rubber now,I may have to take one off just to help with the MPG.

  16. Ok, I should have made myself more clear... The Dakota is getting cut up REALLY SOON to be the donor frame & drivetrain for a 49 Dodge pickup that I found in a junkyard. I only put plates & insurance on it for a few months to get the bugs worked out and to make sure that it was mechanically sound of it before I cut it up. The shifter WILL be welded on once I get the cab on the Dakota frame. The hose clamps AREN'T permanent...

Believe me, I'd like nothing more than to drive one of my other cool old cars to work, but my office is in a more "urban" part of town and anything nice would either get vandalized or stolen in a heartbeat. We've had batteries, tires, and even FACTORY radios stolen in our parking lot... I like my old cars more than that! Even this Dakota has already gotten door dings in it, and both the front AND the back bumpers have rub marks on them from the******s who drive their big old SUVs here but can't judge their cars or drive worth a*****...

I put a MAFCA sticker on the back of my 2006 Ford Ranger. It doesn't make it a hot-rod, but all of the restorers are now instantly willing to sell me parts and projects ...

  18. I swapped a 350 with T350 into my S10 pickup years back. Drove it year around, for work, for a couple years. Snow tires in the winter, and all.

You guys are funny. My daily driver is my 'hot rod'. I use quotes because it's a truck.

  20. Was a lot easier back in the day.

We'd write the speed equipment companies and beg for their decals.

Then put em on the windwings.

    Cheap and easy.

After seeing the Dakota shifter extension I'd kinda like to see one of your hot rods....

  21. I let the exhaust on my Honda Civic rot out, now it has that Hot Rod rap and the little pops when I downshift. I get the thumbs up from other rods on the road, sometimes the middle finger too.

My big ole Tundra is pinstriped up pretty good. About the only "modification" to the truck.

    Amen!

Bone stock 4WD 95 Yukon with cold AC - always runs! Roof rack for carrying big stuff like frames, secure cargo area for tools and smaller parts, veteran of countless swapmeets and tin hunts, always maintained by my local full-service station. If my wife saw me working on my daily driver, she'd immediately****ume I could also maintain her new car, and I wouldn't have any time left to fool around with my 31 and 51.

  25. Man, some of you need to just lighten up, or get laid, or drunk, or... If you can't have a little FUN in your life every now & then...

Someone wanted to see what my "other hot rods" look like...

The 49 truck body was taken off of this big ol' farm truck, hence the need for a little more "streetable" drivetrain (provided by the aforementioned Dakota with the Rat Fink looking shifter). I wanted to see if I even liked the shifter that way before doing all of the work to make it permanent. Hence the hose clamps.

Believe me, I DO drive my stuff as often as possible. The Bluesmobile actually was my daily driver for about 5 years (an 80 mile per day round trip too, not just around the corner). But this is a "traditional hot rod" website and I'll probably get yelled at for mentioning it, so enough about that car.

A bright yellow 1971 Road Runner sitting in a big parking lot screams "LOOK AT ME!" and to reiterate my previous post - it'd get run into, damaged, vandalized, door dinged, or stolen altogether if I drove it to this office. One place that I used to work was in a much better neighborhood and we'd do impromptu "car show Fridays" because of the guys that worked there and their diverse interests in cars.

I seriously doubt that ANY of you would drive anything that you cared about to my office! There are enough hoodlums walking through here with their pants hanging off of their****es and their trucker hats on sideways and their gold chains with the phony diamond encrusted Mercedes emblems to make the NBA look like a Baptist church social hall...

Again... my intent was to make ya LAUGH and to have a little FUN. And if you can't have a little fun and laugh (even at yourself sometimes) then perhaps may I suggest knitting, shuffleboard, collecting sea shells... Lighten up and have a little FUN!

  26. Somehow the photos that I attached got lost along the way...

Sorry, but I don't see any hot rod's in these pictures.

  30. Well at least Gigantor gets it!!! I've even had COPS give me thumbs up when I pass them in the Bluesmobile!!!

If ya can't have a little FUN every now & then... well***** it! You might as well sign yourself into the old folks home!!!

Johnnykck, a 440 powered car that can run 12's DOESN'T qualify as being even a little "hot"? What do YOU drive every day???
