Does anyone remember the Cord on top of the sign at a junkyard in Detroit. It was in the early seventies when I used to see it.
The truck still runs. It is about a mile north of clinton that is east of beloit. Great guy. He has some differant cars. Tantara
I saw this one in Hobart Tasmania a few years ago: And this one in the same town at Joe's Garage: I was told the Volvo was the first owned by the guy who did the "Port Arthur massacre" in 1996 killing 35 people and wounding 21... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_(Australia) Kinda bizarre roof-ornament...
There is a 56 chevy on a pole at a resturant a little north of me and would get some pics of it but I cant remember just where it is.
I was going to put a Dauphine on a pole at our yard in San Francisco but someone really wanted to buy it so it was sold. Bell Plumbing just a few blocks away on 26th St. has this Chevy Van up in the air. You can see it as you go north on 101: <iframe marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/sv?cbp=12,6.64,,0,-19.72&cbll=37.750538,-122.402757&v=1&panoid=kiScZOjqo3QT47ZVuBdjmg&gl=&hl=en" scrolling="no" width="425" frameborder="0" height="240"></iframe> <small>View Larger Map</small>
On Hwy 119 I believe it is, going from Morgantown, WV to Pittsburgh, Pa., there's a car in front of a body shop that is wrapped around the body shop sign pole. Every time I go through there, I'm in the motorhome, pulling a dragster trailer, so I don't even try to take a picture on the skinny winding road, but it sure is an attention getter.
Just went by it today. There is a Ply business coupe LIke the Ramchargers High and Mighty at a junk yard near me right off I-69. I saw someone from Evansville posteda Corvette For years there was a 1968? Corvette at Bennett Motors "Where the Corvette rides High in the Sky" in Evansville.
I'm not sure of the brand but you are right there is a little red car on a post on Rt.106 I have driven by it many times.look up on the hill top parking lot there is a shortened 53 Chevy convertible up there some kind of home made creation red with white scallops sort of. Update This is Lanes garage on Rt 106 and they have lots of HAMB friendly cars there for sale there is a storage yard out behind the shop with 60 or so old cars besides whats out front on 106.I spoke with the owners briefly they seem friendly and are hot rod friendly also.
There are no fewer than 3 that I can think of, off the top of my head, between Austin and San Antonio, if one drives the "back way," taking the 290 to the 165 "shortcut" to the 281. There's one in Dripping Springs, in front of an insurance office; one at the Wimberley turn-off, for a Farmer's Market; and one between Spring Branch and Bulverde, in front of a bar. Sorry I don't have pics; the next time I drive down to see my folks, I'll take the digital camera and get a few. . .
their is a 1925-or 26 ford couple on a building in my town that has beens their since the 40's or 50's cool 41-46 chevy truck
I dont have a picture, but theres a '58 or so Plymouth wagon used as the sign for the hardware store in Trinidad. Its a shame, too, cuz its an otherwise solid car. If you live in nor cal, im sure you know this one.
The Cadillac Ranch, located along the tatters of historic Route 66. The ten graffiti-covered cars are half-buried, nose-down, facing west "at the same angle as the Cheops' pyramids."
Here is the sign for the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa, NM. Another great place to burn a couple of hours and take a break from driving.
don't have a picture, but on route 36 outisde Decatur, IL there is a little old renault or something on a pole.
I've been by there a few times the last couple years and I never remember seeing it, so I'm going to say no on that one. My buddy Mark has one on the back of a truck out front serving as a sign of sorts, though, on NY Route 28 south of Mohawk. Someone mentioned cars wrapped around poles and that reminds me of a few I've seen cut in half and positioned next to the wall as signs. Downtown Syracuse, Dick's Collision had an Omni in the office section that way; and a place that backs up on 5S in Mohawk had a Geo Metro or something cut off behind the doors with their signage on it. I'm sure there are others, heck another place downtown has a 1906 I forget what brand that only a handful of exist anywhere, truck, in their front window where it's been for like 60 years or something. It's not much bigger than a modern compact car would be.
No one has a picture of the '57 chevy on the pole in Manistique Mi.? There's a junkyard here that has a severely rolled Monte Carlo on a pole with their name on the side overlooking the expressway
there are two of them in sheboygan wisconsin... one is a ford escort on top of a body shop. the other is a flopper body and chassis that USED to be on top of a bar, but the city claimed it wasnt a sign and needed to be taken down... now its in front of the local speed shop. i'll see if gerg can take some pics of it soon
Unfortunately don't have pictures, but at Chattanooga TN, there is a vintage White Freightliner tractor and trailer mounted high on poles as a sign for a truck stop. A U-Haul truck rental place in east Baltimore has an old 16 foot U-Haul truck, late '60s/early '70s Ford, mounted on top of their building.
yet another "don't have a picture but" Real nice Chevy AD pickup at the Riverwalck Saloon 8 Center Street Parryville, PA 18244
