Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alanjohnson, Aug 26, 2009.

  1. Having seen a lot of cars you guys have built in the past,,,this car in my eyes is the best by far,,,but
i have always leaned toward the traditional styles. HRP

If this doens't speak to you on a very basic traditonal level you should have your pulse checked. A little different than a lot of the rides that come out of your shop but they all are home runs.

If AJ is building a traditional styled car, then it means this site and the people on it may become "trendy" - OMG!!

Naw, more like a movement. It's all good. Amazing car.

Nice to meet you and Angie at Louisville, too.

Is this the one that was in the TRJ booth at the Detroit autorama last year? If so it is a bad ass ride. I hope you bring it back this year:D

A lot. That was not the smartest thing I ever attempted. I had seen similar ones in late 30's Alfa's and other European race cars and thought that would look cool on a deuce. They were done on a Pulmax. The panels had to be flattened to cut and shape the louvers then stretch each one to get the curvature correct. I like the results but I have got to find an easier way to do these other than making 80 dies to punch them.

Paul Atkins did the seat. It is constructed with a 1" square tube frame with trampoline material stretched over it. The shape is cut from foam blocks that have been glued together. The foam is glued to the frame work and the leather is stretched and glued to the foam. I will try to find some photos that show the details.

    about the louvers..
I saw them in the article on your car, liked them, and took the pics to a guy with a pullmax who restores vintage bentleys, ferrari bodies, etc.. he flipped out and said that is one of the hardest things you could do ,get a louver that long to follow a curve like that..wasnt prepared to qoute me on attempting it, but he would guess a thousand wouldn't cover it.

My bonnet tops are unfortunately un louvered for the moment..till I build a louver press.

Love your car, amazing stance..in the TRJ photos the front leafs were on the frame..I assumed they took some leaves out for the shots!!

It is gorgeous. I've loved the louvers since seeing your work in the TRJ article. Great work.

Thanks, yea I was at Bonneville with the Caddy. We finally got the owner/driver to realize he wasn't drag racing and smooth up his driving style. After two spins he finally backed up the record on Thursday at 247.
