Event Coverage Big Olds Big Cross Country Adventure 2009

I was up there last Wednesday and Thursday, and it was fantastic. So green and LOTS of wildflowers, didn't think there would be any this late. Watched one of the big construction trucks get stuck between one of the stopped cars and the overhang. That was a comedy of errors.

 

I would have taken the time to stop if in fact I thought there might be someone there to explain it to me. It did look very interesting and I thought there'd have to be a back story to it. Maybe next time....oh wait...there's not going to be a next time on 160 in Kansas.

 

Glad I was able to be there to greet you after your long day. Enjoyed dinner and the conversation (still think the waiter was a little strange) I guess... whaddya expect from Dennys at 11PM on a thursday. Gary

Seriously Denise you do need to write a book on your travel's, It would not be boring. There are very few Hot Rodder's that have traveled the U.S.A. in their Hot Rod as much as you have and I bet NON that have documented it like you have, So JUST DO IT.
You could call it something like "Traveling The U.S.A. In A Hot Rod" Featuring Big Old's and Denise , or something like that.
Between you and Joice (Cherry Bomb) you two gal's put most of us guy" to shame with how much you DRIVE your Hot Rods, keep up the good work and thanks for the entertainment.

You're pretty close to the name of my newest scrapbook which is entitled "Hot Rodding Across the USA" Which is actually a collection of photos (and stuff) of all my cars over the last 30 years in the different states.

Nope, she's got some sort of part time gig now so she couldn't make it to the Spokane event.

 

So last I left off.......

Friday morning at the host hotel in Joplin, MO....well not exactly morning as I decided not only to sleep in BUT to hang out in my room, surf the HAMB and just relax before the start of the madness later in the day.

Mid-afternoon I hopped in Big Olds and drove him around to the back of the hotel where I had arranged with the hotel staff to place a hose so we could wash our cars. Stewed and REJ had the same idea. The three of us had a good time washing the two cars






Bummer I didn't have my "white Wall Bitch" with me......I had to scrub them myself.


Then brought Big Olds back around and found a parking spot. The place was filling up FAST!




Everyone just hanging out and socializing

Once back at in the hotel parking lot I took a walk about


The dudes from St Louis had this cool little set up






Bill had thoughts of wiretieing it but alas he didn't.....bummer


I then headed into the hotel and to the Ladies of the HAMB hospitality suite where we had alittle Meet & Drink


How cool is 20 or so women sitting around yakking about hot rods, customs and drag racing?? You guys dream about this right???

She had very yummy rasberry something blender drinks and choclate cake something shots.....does it get any better then that!?!


I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Rob AKA Suit for setting this up for the Ladies of the HAMB and to Catherine for running with the idea and pulling off such a wonderful party. Thanks!

 

Quit showing your food dammit... I miss real Texas BBQ's...!




I drool at the thought of a genuine Texas BBQ but it takes a lot of time to dig the Grill out from snowdrifts and Do you know "How hard it is to find Mesquite wood up here in Cheese land"?

 

crap, Mike and Roger were BOTH there!!!? Good thing John and Sue weren't or I would be really bummed. Oh, did you happen to see Bruce AKA EnginePro 5X? He claims he was there, but I have some doubts. He usually is talking about tube steak/hotdogs/bratwurst/kielbasa? Or something like that. Do you know who I mean?

 

Back out into the parking lot, JalopyGal and myself headed over to where the band was playing.........

But it didn't take long before both her and Ryder were wiped out


Stopped over and checked on the boys from Colorodo who had a wheel bearing issue. Special thanks to Ryno for once again coming to the rescue, or just about to come to their rescue, with the puller. The CO boys got it taken apart before Ryno could get to his house and back with the tool.......BUT just the offer of help and knowing your available, really helps out in stressful situations.....I know, been there.


Ran into Monkey and his lovely wife who made a happy annoucment that they are having a baby monkey soon! Congrats guys!

By this time it was getting late and I knew I was getting up early to pick up the donuts and head to Ryno's so I called it a night........but not before a hug from Gary.

 

Red, Hot and Blue, just down the street from the Holiday Inn (same side of the street). We have one around here but it's no where as good as the one in Joplin which we eat at on the Thursday night of the HAMB Drags every year. Kinda like one of those tradation things.

 

well damn! thursday night i was at wafflehouse! course that was 330 in the morn!!!
