I scanned this out of an old magazine...

69 Camaro wrapped around a pole on a roof in Chattanooga. Supposedly the shop owners son was killed in it years ago.

Mandan ND, I think it used to be a motorcycle shop and body shop in the back. It looks like it is for sale now.

THere used to be the Lincoln Towing "Toe Truck" parked on a roof in Seattle right when you got off the Mercer Street exit. When I was there last month it was gone. Making way for progress I guess.

On a side note, some vintage dirt racing buddies have plans to design a sign for the new Unity Dirt track here in Maine utilizing various scrap parts from a 34 ford ex race car. While I have my qualms as a few of the pieces they want to use (front axle for instance) I would like to have in my own garage. But they want my help designing it and it should be pretty cool if I have anything to say about it.

    Hahaha... Pier 39. Good one.

  15. The aforementioned '57 in Midwest City (actually a hardtop sans roof). I was told the floor was cut out when it was placed on the roof.

  17. Seeing some of the car sides being used reminds me that The Turning Stone Casino (Verona NY) used to have the side of a '55 Chevy (with the top cut off to convertible-ize it) in one of the restaurants. I never knocked on it to see if it was real steel or a fiberglass knockoff, I suppose it could have been either. It was in a 50s-theme restaurant, they've since changed things around and redecorated.

For that matter on eBay a while back I was looking at auctions where a theme park in Ohio had used cars as booths for people to eat in, then sold them off to a guy who was trying to sell them on eBay. Most were in okay shape other than tops cut off and usually missing doors on one side and the interior gutted.

Which reminds me that at least a couple of local McDonalds have hot rods out front; the one in Utica has a T-bucket, with a plexiglass hood over the motor. I think Baldwinsville has something similar. They're both more recent retro-styled builds, designed to look like the old original restaurants on steroids.

We had a club here called "Horse Feathers" That had the back half of 2 57 chevys sticking out the side of the building that were restored. The rear seats were seating for parts of booths inside the restaurant the tail lights were always lit both cars were cut right at the back edges of the doors.lots of folks flipped when they saw the 2 cars added to the building but A friend of mine did the "restorations" And both cars were "front end totals "and were used for parts to restore other cars first.A drive in in Mendon Mass. also has a front end of a 57 chevy that appears to be driving out of the projection booth on top of the concession stand which has a 50s era diner theme inside.

  20. Love the comb over. You'd never notice he's losing his hair.

There is a Bantam coupe on top of the sign at Northridge Auto Wrecking in the SFV/SoCal. Back in the 50s and into the 70s there was an Essex on the roof at a yard on the Sun Valley/Burbank border on San Fernando Road.

In either Cleburne or Hilllsboro TX there is a front end shop that has the front(cowl and complete front sheet metal and suspension) of an American Bantam sticking out of the building.
Someplace in Arkansas I saw a double ended Crosley on a pole adverstising a junkyard. Have a pic buried someplace.
In Splendora TX there is a Corvair on apole in front of a service garage.
On Washington Ave(?) in Houston is a 49-50 Ford than is double sided but only about a foot or so thick, talk about sectioning.
Embedded in the outside wall of a country bar out on the country roads off 290 NW of Houston going out toward Cat Springs, Fayetteville, etc. is an early 50s Dodge sedan.

At the corner of Shaver and Spencer in Pasadena there was a 23-25 Ford T Coupe on a pole at a car lot called Minter Motors, now some Spanish language car lot. This same coupe was on a pole when the same people had their lot on Harrisburg in eastside Houston before the move to Pasadena. AND the same coupe was on a pole at their original location, I believe it was, on Washington Ave in Houston when they got into the business back in the 40s!
The car was painted red during its 60+ years as an advertising icon and had neon surrounding the body contours and on the wheels which turned as well as the speed lines and smoke/dust puff in neon out behind. The neon tubes were still on parts of the car but it hadn't been lit up since the days on Harrisburg.
Sadly, some months ago the car was taken down and now a line drawing of it it is on the sign.

Just a FYI, the Lincoln Toe Truck is still around, I've seen it in the last year, but for the life of me, I can't remember where; seems it was in a fenced in lot. It's still "pink" even. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Saftey Auto glass, Indianapolis, has a 60's front engine Indy car on top of their building but I don't have a picture of it. Someone from Indy has to have one.

The Dodge dealer in Henderson Ky. had a Viper on a pole. I always wondered if it was real or some sort of knock-off.
