After setting my drivetrain into my chassis, I am finding that I only have 3" clearance between the water pump to the rad. I don't have much more room to go back to the firewall, as I am already 4" back into it. I looked on the flex a lite website, and any of their high output fans are over 4" thick. Now I could set the fan up higher on the rad, to gain some ground, and that is where the hotter water is anyways. So I'm looking for advice....
If there is anyway at all to do it use a mechanical fan.And whatever you do don't use a pusher fan, they usually cause heating issues going down the road by disrupting the air flow over the radiator.
There was a tread on this recently. Look up So freaking happy with this electric fan !! very thin and you can clock the motor to different positions.
Yogi's has three fans by Cooling Components that are less than 3" deep. http://www.yogisinc.com/results.cfm/-/Category=1334/brand_ID=98/brand.htm
I would run an engine mounted fan as John, and Richard suggest, however the way I'll have my engine mounted it would be too low. I checked out the Yogis website, and now I have some hope. The sidewinder one looks like a trick unit, however pricey.
Any chance of adapting some kind of a factory fan off a ?? car import maybe? Factory electric fans do work and 100 times better than most aftermarket junk.
I have a SBF in my roadster and the motor is mounted toooo low for a mecanical fan. I tried lots of different fans but settled on a Permacool unit that has a aluminimum mechanical type fan on it. Has 2850 CFM air flow. It cools my roadster great. I did use a Snow White water pump adapter set up to shorten up the waterpump.
How about using a Zips riser,,then you CAN use a mechanical fan,, A good thread about the risers,,HRP http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119484&highlight=zips+riser
Taurus had a pretty strong fan built into an assymetrical shroud so you might mount it in various positions. SHO version might blow harder.
