That looks like a nice coupe. I was eyeing it in the classifieds, but I don't need another coupe.

As a new father of a 10 month old son that had to send my '36 coupe back to my parent's farm for storage because you can't haul a kid around in a coupe, I see a flaw in your logic for getting a coupe because you want to start a family. Hopefully you'll be blessed and you can find out on your own just how much crap you have to have with you! :D Keep going though, because you'll be able to trade it for a really nice Pre-war sedan when the time comes. :D

    Yes, I'm serious.

I got a '55 chevy wagon, and I wouldn't have thought it possible, but we fill it to the top when we load the family up for a car show.

Recockulous. Your the only other person I know besides my friend Joe that uses that term hahaha!!! I let boobie know that the hood is still there. I see what the fellers are up to on the 19th. I am getting surgery on the 16th so I am not sure I will driving the '26 out if I do come. Thanks!!!

Here is my logic on the '35. It's a rumble seat so The Red Fox (wife) can ride back there:D:D!!! Just kidding, I was not trying to get a family car but more something that my wife can ride in while she is pregnant. The 9 months that she is carrying a child will be devoted to getting our '54 Chevy closer to a driver so that we can take the whole family in that. 9 months is a short time but still very much a long time in terms of not using a car. The '35 allows us to drive to shows during the pregnancy and hopefully not skip a beat. Once we have a child then the '54 can step in and pull family duty. I won't have that one finished but hopefully I'll have it safe and on the road soon after.

One thing that I do know that I am missing as far as logic is the amount of time and stuff to do when we do get pregnant. Right now I assume that things will cary on the same but that I know is just wishful thinking because I will be pulling triple time as far as daily duties go. The '54 may not get ready in the time that I want but at least we have the rumble seat like I said!!!:D

Thats a great looking car I bought a 35 2 door hump back awhile ago and it was more than I could handle it needed a frame but was complete minus interior .
I traded it off but kept the wire wheels for the future your plans sound good keep us posted if it turns out as nice as your roadster it will be a fine automobile good luck with your family and remember the sooner you start them on hot rodding the better.:D

EVERYONE suggested the rumble seat to my wife. After about the 15th time, she started to get pissed off. :D

You'll have more time at the front end than later on. Do as much as you can now while you're still trying. But if you really want to get pregnant, relax and just let it happen, whether it's a few months or more than a few months. We picked the time that we would start trying with the understanding that it could take longer, so we didn't sweat it. Two months later, my wife was pregnant. She said, "I'm pregnant!" I said bullshit, it's only been 2 months!

Most of the stuck up broads I hang with in this town.....I got to knock out like B.A. Baruckus to get them in the truck....

    Hahaha!!!

Dude, I am definitely not a Jedi. I think she's that cool which is what counts. When we were towing the two cars back she was like, "ummm I think I'll take this one. You can keep the roadster if I get this one". I was like " that's the sexiest shit I have ever heard".

She's not the type of girl that you will ever seen working on one but if I need her help lifting or something she is always there like in the case of her coming with me to get the cars with only 20 minutes notice. She has her own interests that I fully can get into and support her on as she does for me. I think it's a perfect balance really. She has a sister.....

    Looks like fun.

  8. Keep the small block! Dead nuts dependable, cheap to fix up, and as traditional as a fenderless A roadster! It's just the right sized car for a family starting out !
Oh,BTW, you have to keep the outside spare!

My wife road in my '36 when she was pregnant, with open headers. :D

Get the kid used to noise, even while still in the womb! Your life will be much easier when they can sleep through loud parties at 2-3 months old. :D No one could believe that our son was asleep with so much ruckus. Of course now that he's 10 months, he's a busy body, and if there is even a hint of something that's not boring to look at, he will not go to sleep. Gets that from me I guess. Hahaha!

I was reading back over a few posts and had an idea...(you've prolly already had this thought, too!)

In your first pics of the '35, it looks as if it has a SMALL back seat. I saw in a mag several years ago that a guy pulled the rear seat and "permanently mounted a kiddie seat in the center between the huge rear wheel tubs of a (baby puke) pro street something.

Get a baby seat and match the uphoulstry on the front seat! Instant fam-mobile!

Definitely going to keep the spare tire. Need to find a '36 though because I am switching over to all '36-'39 wheels.

I am pretty excited about the Chevy engine. At first I was trying to do everything i could to get it out and throw my Olds engine in there but my good pal Del talked some sense into me. Basically later down the road if I can I might run the 303 Olds but not for a very long while. The more and more I look at the SBC in there the more I like it. Who knows I might build a 265 and throw it in there down the line. The one that Brian Bass has in his roadster is rad no matter who you are.

Can't wait to hear it fire but I first need to collect some things in order to do so.

Who can tell me more about Dizzy's on SBC's. I am looking at a Mallory Dual Point right now.

Glad to see you are going to do something with it.I really considered your roadster but I've been looking for a model a coupe.I'm glad you are happy with it,I'll be down at the auto fair in the spring I can't wait to see it.By the way I found a 30 coupe that's pretty cool,I'll post some pics when I get started on it.Here's a pic of what it looks like now.If it's done by spring I might drive it down to NC.

Nice idea!! Do '39-40's have a jump seat back there?? I feel like I have seen them before. I will have to inquire about the proper way and safest way to mount a seat back there if it's possible. Might be illegal but who knows! There is a lot of room in back of the seat though.

If you put a small seat back there, you'll have to use tudor sedan seats that fold forward, or some other kind of seat that folds forward. And it will be hard to get the little tyke in and out too, but not impossible.

  17. I thought I had dibs on the sister???

  18. Good start, I like the Olds idea and have been there. But for dependibility and ease/economy to fix on or off the road, you just cant beat a SBC and the late ones can be made to look almost identical to the 55 and later. 58 was when the started to use the side mtr mts. Like I mentioned in your earlier thread, I have put several SBCs in early Fords. On this one it appears you went with CE mt kit, looks like you have the one that moves the left mount forward so you can use the RH exhaust manifold from a 67 thru 72 Chev/GMC pick up that exits forward to clear the stock steering when you build the ex sys. Have done this on several and currently have one on the Wife's 40 coupe.
Since you need a seat, definately go with a coupe split or tudor sedan seat, even though you may not ever put a rear seat in it, its handy to be able to push the seat forward to put things behind the seat. You may want to look for a set of 40 "Opera"seats that bolt to the floor and raise up to the side when not in use, getting really hard to find now tho.
Last thing, dont let your rear wishbones getaway from you, 35/36 are so easy to install a later open driveline rear end in if you update later, 3 brackets and you are done, one on each side on the rear and one up front with a heim joint (rod end) and your ready to go. Used them in my Cad powered 40 coupe in 75 and still running today, never any problems. Just put a 67 Bronco rear in my 34 with a set also. It doesnt look like you are too far from driving it, Good Luck. Dave

Man thanks Daveydeuce!!! I am pretty sure your right on the money with the CE mounts and the exhaust. If I can recall 1oldrat had a thread about the exhaust and something was said about a truck manifold so I think your right.

A far as the seat goes, I think that sound advice. I might have a lead on a split sedan seat which might help later with the kid. I'll keep that noted and look around.

Hopefully I can stick with the banjo forever as long as I don't abuse it. I really don't plan on updating the rear with maybe the exception of a open driveline conversion and a t-5 but I am not even thinking that way just yet. It would free up a '39 tranny for my '32 though....hmmmmm.

    Good looking piece.

I see the hood fits about as bad as mine does around the grille.

Hahaha!!! What the hell is that about??? I mean if there was no other reason not to ever paint this car besides how big of a bitch it is to get the hood properly that's enough. I think the issue with mine right now is that the grille shell is leaned back a bit much but who knows. Man that's frustrating.

Hahahaha. Guys without kids are so funny when they talk about what it's gonna be like to have kids. Even funnier is how you think you're gonna have time to work on cars while your wife is pregnant. You'll be making more trips to the corner store for beef jerky, ice cream and pickles than you can count. And then the bed rest. And the hormones. Oh dear. Take your planned accomplishments during pregnancy and divide by ten, lol. After your child is born, divide by 1,000, lol. :D The car is for sure gooder'n'hell though. And you've got nothing but time. Congratulations. Can't wait to see it in person. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks again guys for encouragement, Joyo just got done reading the new TRJ. I am stoked to hear the reast of the history on that car!!!

Terd, you just made me depressed so keep that to yourself hahaha!!!

Just got back from the shop where I tried to get the front end all undone. Funny thing is that I needed no force to get the King pins or back plates off. Honestly, I feel like something was wrong because we put the driver on the top of the king pins to get ready to hit it and the just touching the top moved it and inch down. One tap each and they were out. The Perch bolts were a different or should I say are a different story.

What the fuck keeps these things in the axle?? 80 years of fusion??? I tried to follow Chris (my guru of sorts) and not fuck them up but we put heat on them and beat them till we were blue in the face. NOTHING!!!! Just a mushroomed perch bolt. And if that was not enough the wishbone appears to be welding to the axle which is totally rad because now I am lost.

Here is Boobie putting some hurt on the axle hoping to budge the perch bolt...

Here is where the wishbone is welded to the axle on both sides, anybody ever see that before...

For all I know they could have done that in Detroit. Anyways, how the hell have some of you guys got these bolts out?? I was thinking that my next step is finding a 40 ton hydraulic press to push them out but won't they still mushroom ruling them unusable?

What about cutting them and welding a Grade 8 bolt back on so that they are like new?

I need help to say the least.

I am going to take a band saw to the wishbone and see if I can neatly cut where they are welded to the frame.

just a thought.... why not just leave it all together?
that stuff doesnt have to move and on a 35 nothing really relies on it like a 28-34

i have a 36 frontend i bought thats welded like that, i wanted the axle for something else... but now thinking im just gona use it in my '35 and leave it alone....

edit.... ahhh...just realized your putting a dropped axle on....sorry
    forget i said anything! haha
