little brother, you are not me, nor could you ever hope to be. And if you try to be i will punch you in the face. However, you're right that car is awesome. Do you like the raked roof i tried to do or the even chop like on that one?

It's your car, do you want it chopped? Then chop it.

I have lots of pics of that car on my home computer will post some later. The car has now found a home Down Under in Australia.

Here's a pic I have of a car I was looking at buying last year but didn't. I have plenty more if you need.

honestly, I don't think I'd rake the roof like that. I like it, but I think I like the even chop better on that car. plus I'm geussing that raking it would be tons of extra work. I say just do a 3-4" chop like you orig****ly planned on doing..

The Green Chrysler is ***s indeed, one o'my favorite of the fat fendered cars, then the Blue one w/ the Packard grille is also a stunner,
the burgundy one is the same car b4 the packard grille treatment, there was another thread on the subject some time ago, if i remember correctly
it was a Gonners car that got to the Emperors, at that point car got to another level, w/ the new grille, chop and bunch of other work.
The last one aint sure, but is a good un-chopt example, i think ive seen it recently w/ a Lords cc plaque, but its around some years now and didnt have any plaque b4.
My answer? If you got the skills chop it! Its gonna be killer!

he's teh big part of the whole thing ..

Have you ever chopped a car ??

Just saying,,yes maybe you could chop it and it come out fine,,or you screw the whole thing up and you have wasted time and money.. Not trying to be uber negative

Put it together first get it running and on the road.. Then if you still wanna chop it go ahead

+1000 Even if you don't chop it, it still is begging to be slammed! That metal one is outstanding and a killer example of a custom.:)

Yeah, the metal one is superb, we have some very talented guys here in europe,
Poelmans for what info i gathered throug friends is a talented restorer w/ many years of experience that got the kustom bug lately,
but being second hand info i wouldnt bet on it. Outstanding work anyway.
About the car, i also think it needs to get on the floor 1st, on a good frame and possibly running, chopping and all the rest comes after that,
i know how hard it is to wait sometimes, but for the sake of it you need to find that
patience and start plannin b4 anything, i learned the hard way, but if you can avoid ****in something up it will benefit you no doubt.
    Take care, bonez.

    Go mild.

The 1/4 window is a difficult area on these cars because it already has the slanted post. A heavy chop looks like *** because the 1/4 window damn near disappears and these don't look right as 3 windows.

The car in post #23 looks odd to me because there is now a crease between the rear window and the trunk where the stocker has a nice smooth transition. To me that just looks wrong. I do like the rest of the chop though. Looks nice.

    Here's a 40 that went 3 window.....
The tough part on these cars is the slight tilt up from the cowl to the nose. Changing the body lines tends to exagerate this. You also have to do some big work to the frame to be able to drop the front where it should be. Then the front of the grille and fenders is so Vee'd, it still looks high.
If you want to jump into metal work, I'd suggest tilting the nose down very slightly, and working the lower edge of the front. You don't want it to look like a spoiler welded on, but drop the fender corners some.

i agree that this will be very tricky. You're right that everything seems to tilt upward on the front of these, personally I don't mind that... it somehow gives it an aggressive kind of look from the side. I've got a camaro sub partially installed in it right now and it looks like that will lower it some but i think drop spindles might still be in order. I want to stay away from bagging the back (save $$$ for the rest of the car) but I may find that I can't get it low enough otherwise.

as far as the chop goes... the 1/4 window will definitely be retained although it will have to be removed, resized and put back. I don't care for the slanted back so I will be moving the whole roof slightly forward and adding to the area just forward of the trunk lid. I imagine we'll only be able to go so far with that before it looks bad so we may have to add length to the roof, too... which adds to the challenge since I want to keep my drip rails. It's all very hard to explain but I'll be adding the pictures to my album throughout the build.

This car is a 48 Plymouth Club Coupe. This car has a much different roof line than the standard coupe, it's a lot longer and more vertical at the back window. These club coupes look better chopped than the standard coupe does.

The shop belongs to Charles - the work is as great as it looks on the photos. He makes no compromises until the job is done 100%.
He started out with kustoms 10 years ago and then turned restorer in the last years to make a living (building kustoms unfortunately can not provide that in the Netherlands).
The Plymouth is mine and the project goes on for 4 years now.
I can highly recommend his shop if you want the job to be done right.
Charles is also registered here at the hamb, but if you want more info, the best thing is to contact him straight via his homepage.
