Features Altered Wheelbase Picture Thread

    This is mine. It's elsewhere on this site also. But, it's a '66 Dart we stretched the nose 12" on, straight axle, left the rears alone. Just made new tools to do long front fenders, and altered the wheelbase on mine as well. One pic shows the stock fender over the stretched frame ust to demonstrate how fer it really is moved, one shows the wheelbase altering job we did on it, and the other with it all put together.

    Here's an awb hemi dodge I just finished this spring. Magnesium, lots of fiberglass, plexi, aluminum. Sits a little higher in the back now than when this pic was take as I lowered the front spring perches like many of the racers did to take out that nose high attitude. Also have the correct aluminum wingnuts, pin bezels on the trunk/hood now as well.

    Love the "bubbled" windshied on the black '65 Hemi Dodge. Somebody chime in on this cool feature! Was this an over-the-counter factory race part?

    Bob Mosher would then label my shop a "historical place of interest" !!!!

    I always loved that photo, but there were weekends that I couldn't afford color film, and this weekend I was stuck with black and white. All I had was a meager allowance and a paper route at the time...:(
    They hadn't even painted "Snack Bar" on that building yet...

  15. Here is the one I am building as money allows. I love the AWB cars and always wanted my own. It is a '65 Tempest. Rear axle moved up 7", front frame stretched 5". Fenders have relocated wheel openings and then they were stretched further. No front bumper or hood is planned. Engine is a '59 389 bored and stroked to 577" with 14-71 blower. Trans is Lenco 3speed with Crower clutch and also th400. Rear is early Pontiac.
    I'm trying to build the car exactly the way I would have built it in '65 if I would have been around to do it at the time ( with few exceptions). Safety stuff of course will be modern as I want to run the car in exhibitions and match races.

    Note grey 64 GTO in background is to show colmparison of wheelbase changes from a stocker.

    here's another pic of the awb I built. I did a ton of research to try and represent how these were built and modified thru out 65. Did the whole deal with the frt frame rails, long torsion bars, column shift, aluminum door hinges, f-glass bumpers w. f-glass brackets. Really fun to build.

    Can someone be so kind and explain the story behind AWB's?
    I know they are the begining of funny cars...why the funny axle setup, the rules behind that? When did the class started and why? etc, etc...
