great thread.. nice to see some old Brockways in there too.. My grand parents had some old ones late 50s early 60s. for their fuel oil bizz that there kept until the late 80s..then My dad restored a 77 I think it was..and used it everyday for hauling dump trailers.. The 70s model was during the Mack years.. cant remember what year mack bought them out, but I know one of the big reasons was cause they couldnt compete with those old husky trucks.. gotta try to dig some of those pics up if I can.. there is also a Brockway show everyyear in august at the former factory.. and like others said, there are lots of old big truck shows around.. just have to look in the right spots.. and the peple there are great.. its a good family event to check out

If you liked that little yellow Bantam pickup above. this is what could happen to them if some high school kid got hold of one in the late fiftys. If anybody sees this car, I want it back.

  10. There's a Mack like this one in a storage lot over in Englewood. It has been sitting in there for quite awhile. I used to drive by it often when I worked out that way.

Neat looking truck. Shame there aren't more of them out on the open road................E

  14. This is a great thread. I don't care if it's OT or not. My truckin' experience is just one little trip. A friend of mine bought out a helicopter company outside of Denver and he had a driver for a Penske rental truck. I told him I was going to come back with the driver instead of fly back with them. Once in NM I told the driver I was going to drive. He let me bring it back some of the way to FL. That was the most fun I ever had on the road. It was a flat nose IH, what 9022 or something like that? The kind that Hunt had for years and years. I was jawin' with a Cookin' Good Chicken truck via CB on I-10 and was running right along beside him and I blew right by a weigh station. I told him to tell him I'd come back. He said "don't worry about it he was asleep when I pulled up" ..Scared the shit out of me. The driver took over then in case we got stopped because I didn't have a chauffeur's license. I remember going through an old building full of old trucks when I first moved to Tampa in '59. There was a "Brown Diesel" in there. Hell of a looking truck, never saw one before and not since. Back in the day when factories delivered new cars you could bet the company would have one of their company trucks delivering the cars. Ford CO used Ford trucks, GM used GMC's and Chrysler used Dodges. Yeppers, Damned good thread !!

  17. If I'm not mistaken this was the only made-for-tv movie that was later released in theaters because it was so popular.

  19. Ramblur,
WOW! That is some private collection. Where is it? Is it ever opened to tours? I'd love to see it sometime.

Thanks for posting the great pictures.

  20. Here's a 1942 Sterling fire truck owned by our local historical society. I did a partial 'sympathetic restoration' on it in 2005 to get it to run & drive in local parades, etc. It has a big Hercules 6-cylinder flathead engine and a 5-speed overdrive trans. It is a pumper-tanker with Howe fire apparatus body. 46,000 actual miles, and original paint.

Heres photos of trucks from New Zealand. Nearly all these trucks are Detroit powered. All these trucks were new on logs and most were powered by petrol motors, and were repowered to Diesels

There's more, but no pictures of them all, yet. When dad retired, he got a fetish for old trucks (again).

It's an International model ACO, or "Sightliner". It was originally built for inner city deliveries, with just a 48" bumper-to-back-of-cab depth, and ours has a single drive axle and a skimpy 104" wheelbase. They were easy to see out of, and easy to get around in...and so ugly they are cool!:D
