In my never ending effort to stay broke, I present my new midget race car project. It's being delivered to Hershey. #33 owned and driven by Joe Barzda of NJ. I finally have a real race car I can run at Latimore...if I can fit in the damn thing!! Comes with 3 V8-60's and a pile of parts. I never learn.
Boy!!! You sure know how to make a fella jealous first thing Monday morning. I've always wanted one,but..................at 6'2" how to fit in it would be a major problem. A few years ago my grandson and I could have had a ball with one of those. Now he about 3' taller than me. Frank
That's a dream of mine......that era of midgets was GREAT. I'd put that thing in the middle of my living room.
The Barzda brothers, Joe, John and Pete owned California Speed and Sport in New Brunswick, NJ for over 50 years. They raced and sponsored dozens of midgets, sprints and even entered a Maserati in the Indy 500 in the 50's. That will be a very cool car to research and restore.
scrapiron, we'll be at Zephyr Hills in Feb, no car though. Rich V, My buddy John Peters from Jersey knows/knew them well. It will be fun researching. Speedrome, Lynn Paxton also thought it looked like a Hillegass from the couple little photos I bought it from. I'm set up right next to him at Hershey, so he will be the first to see it. And he'll know for sure.
Larry your home is already way too crowded with old crap, mine isn't. Perhaps I could arrange long term storage of the little car at my place. Rates would be very reasonable.
Lucky DOG! I'm sure Paxton will break it in for you!!!! <<<grin>>> Don't "BUY" any fence/railing with it!!! Flat sided tail section is one of the ways to tell if it's a Hillegass. tt
Whoa!! now you're meddling. We need to join forces, just think how cool your racer would look being towed by my woodie. I already have a hitch, trailer brakes etc in place and waiting. Seriously though very neat little car, I've never even seen them race but just like the proportions and design on them.
Larry, I think you ought to let me do a shake down run in it first at Latimore. Just to make sure it's safe, you know, under 40
...thats what I was gonna say as well, my uncle drove one just like this same grill and body features. Paul
Awesome car! Great to see another open wheel car on the HAMB. Pretty soon we may out number the drag guys!!!
Cool buy. If you can't fit I'm sure Clark wouldn't mind breaking it in for you, lol. Are you going to repaint it like it is now or leave the original paint on it? later shawn
Lynn helped me ID my Hillegass. it was great seeing the midget they have at EMMR. Check out the similarities to my '41 Hillegass. I'll be at Hershey and I'll make a point of coming over to see it when I come over to see Lynn. Bart
wana trade for a roomier 33 coupe? looks great, I'm anxious to see you out on the track next year Zach
