    Yeah, I thought so.
The problem is that the chrome is a plating, so it adhere's to the metal a lot better than regular paint (if you prep the wheel correctly).
Its also a harder covering, so it can be harder to remove.
You could give it a try, but I think your best recourse here is to just sell them for whatever you can get, and put the money towards sprucing up the truck and/or getting a set of paintable wheels from a junk yard or a garage sale.

    JMHO.

There is a chemical solution that you can get to remove chrome or you can take it to a plater and they can dip it and remove the chrome.

Got a new seat upholstery kit from Blue Oval Truck Parts for my 66. It made a real improvement to my cab. Here is a pic of the Mexican blanket I was using as a seat cover, the ugliness hiding beneath the makeshift cover and the new upholstery. It was really inexpensive when compared to taking it to an upholstery shop and having it done, too. Here are the pics...

    LOL!
That "Mexican Blanket" looks like the seat cover I've been using in my Mazda, since just after getting the truck in '92!

    :D

    Joe,

Not an inexpensive proposition, but wouldn't it be cool to say your tonneau was a Carson?...

  15. There's an outfit down in Texas that makes them. I can't find their info right now, but I'll look around for it and post it later.

Heres our 61 F250 Uni, we accually have two of these, one truck is 3 on the tree, this one is a granny 4 speed both 292's. I try to drive the Red one as much as I can but got to get the 4:56 gears changed down to about 3:73's so I can still pull and more highway friendly.

    Michael,

Nice truck. With 4.56's, can you pull away from a standing start in high gear?
I knew a guy who had a mid 60's GMC with 5.83 gears (that's what he told me!) and he could do that trick.

    Spuds,

    Nice looking "canvas".
Good luck with your truck. I hope you get to enjoy it for a long time.

Finally, a couple of '63's I picked up off the net. I think these are local to me...

    6narow,
my 57 F350 has 5:38's and I think can start out in 4th, 3rd for sure, don't know why they ever did such a crazy ratio like that. The 57 I've had up to 50 and it sounded like Warp factor 9 on the Enterprise. I think about 60 it top end for that.

    Mike,

Things like 5.38 gears and 4-core Harrison's fall under the heading of a "heavy duty" or "severe duty" application.
Chances are, if those gears are original to the truck, it was used to haul heavy loads in hilly country, or someone needed to go very slow in first gear.
When I went to drive the GMC I aluded to in the earlier post, the owner told me there was no need to take off in second gear (had an SM420 tranny) since it wasn't loaded at all, and not to take it over 50mph.
Aparently the ol' V6 didn't like turning a lot of R's and would protest by spitting out a lot of coolant.
He told me his normal "top speed" was about 45.

  28. Thta's my buddy Russ Dodson's truck. He owns Mesa Muffler in Costa Mesa CA. Wouldn't really call it a "Shop Truck" per se. Very clean - He found it on E Bay and did the motor swap, added the wheels, etc.

64 F-100 - no rebuild yet and still runs pretty strong.

I'm looking for new .75" to 1.0" pinner stripe tires at a good price?
