Those wheels are absolutely outrageous, and perfect. Pricey but little more so than many high dollar aftermarket pieces already available. This little ****er is going to be scary fast so I suggest hanging as much meat on those crazy rims as can be managed. Some Excelsior Comp V racing tires should be perfect. They make a 650/18 that should work great for the back but I don't know if they make a narrower 18 that would work on the front.

Yea, I don't plan to race it, and although I know it will drop the final value of the car to not be race legal, I decided that it was out of my budget to finish it in a race legal form. I am struggling to get it done as it is due to money woes. I really just plan to drive it around to the local shows and have some fun with it. I don't think I will have a problem selling it for what I have invested in it, plus I get alot of the enjoyment just from building it. Honestly I wouldn't feel safe driving it really fast anyways, it feels like a little coffin to sit in. hahahaha.... I think it will we scary fast for the street though, lots of fun.

Its not drivable yet, but very close. Trust me, the second it is, I will do a hot lap up the street and post the video on youtube lol.... I am very close to being able to drive it. A couple more steering components and $$ is all I need to finish..and oh yea some good tires too..

Thanks so much for that tire info!! I just checked and they make a 550-18 in the comp v. It is only 29" tall and it will be perfect. Thank you for that, I almost bought the wrong tires... Only problem is they cost $344 each. Thats almost as much as I was going to spend for all 4 tires. The comp h is only $255 each and they are still good for 135mph. And so is hot rodding..... money money money money all the time hahahaha

The thought had not crossed my mind, i am not to familiar with the harley stuff, plus i am a low budget guy. most of the time I have to fabricate my parts with a rock and a stick, cave man style, hahahahaha... Does the harley engine have decent power? As far as I know the 2003 r1 engine has around 135hp and its fuel injected [IMG]

    Very neat build. I
have often wondered how much it would cost to build a set of wheels. I like em' and your lathe guy does nice work, by the looks of it.
I would be interested to see if you can get a bead to seat on them. Looks like the lip was contoured correctly.
What wheel did you (or your machinist) use for a template for the curves?

He actually started with motorcycle wheel blanks and then machined the centers to fit my wheel adapters so it would all be hub centric.

There might be some that would drride your choice of guages and some other little things, but the fact of the matter is, that you are getting it done and in righteous fashion.
    Keep up the good work.
I wish I could talk you out of a test drive once it's done.
That thing is going to be fast and easy on the gas...

Hi again fellas. I need to know if there is anyone out there interested in purchasing the lakester. I originally started this build to finish it and sell it to make a bunch of money. Of course thats never how it seems to work out. It is very close to being drivable, but still not quite finished yet. If there is anyone interested in owning this rocket please get in touch with me. I may be able to buckle down and get it done if I know I have a buyer waiting. I currently have around $8500 in parts wrapped up in it, and all the countless hourse designing and building it. So please, if you are interested, keep that in mind when you make your offers. Thanks Joe

i finally decided to get to work on this thing again. I'm gonna finish the steering first, and i just scrounged up enough change to buy a couple tires for it. They are not the high speed excelsiors I wanted, but they are 94 mph firestone 4.50-18 that should be good enough to cruise the street with. the pics show them just leaned them up against the car to see what they will look like.
