I figured I'd start a build thread for my pickup, so here it is. I started out with a 1937 Ford 1.5 ton truck, and what I believe is a '35 ford sedan frame? the cab on it's new frame with a 4" drop front axle, 283ci. sbc. and my dad! chopped the roof 4", channeled down over the frame6" and shortened the bed 6" between the cab and wheels oak bed floor I made in woodshop at school I used the springs, spring mounts and shackles off of the original 1.5ton frame.. just removed all but 3 of the leafs. they're very short which is what I needed and the way they mounted onto the frame allowed me to get it very low. front rear boxed then "C" notched the frame.
thanks guys, I'm just a kid doing what I enjoy. It's gonna be fenderless. I plan on running wide white walls once I get the money. I've got a set of '35 ford wire spoke wheels that I'm running. I want to paint it either primer grey or flat blue. I can't make up my mind.. If anyones got any questions ask 'em! also, I would love any advice any of you have.
Go with the hood and hood sides. Fenderless like that i think they look beautiful. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kOnjU3cMerE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kOnjU3cMerE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I Know this is a '41 chevy but you get the idea.
yeah, that's a real good looking truck in the video. I've though about building a hood and sides so that I can just take 'em on and off real easy. then I can run it either way.
I know, that was my major concern when I did it. but I used a really heavy gauge steel to box the frame with. I also built braces around the notch on the inside of the frame rails before I boxed it. I hope it holds up, but I guess there's only one way to find out!
I like it bro...keep up the good work. its good to see the younger guys building cool cars. your truck reminds me of mine. I still have a lot of work to do to mine as well. Keep us posted on your build.
thanks, same goes to you! I really like how your truck looks so far. And I agree about the young kids building cool cars. I'm sick of seeing kid's my age driving Japanese pieces of crap that their daddys paid for...
couldn't agree more.. If it wasn't for my dad, I'd have nothing. no talent, no tools, no garage to work in, etc... He basically taught me everything I know!
Cool, like said, you can't overkill on reinforcing your frame.Better safe than sorry at 70mph.Chop looks killer.
I didn't read all reples, but two things come to mind. The rear springs may be too stiff, even with the leaves removed. And the welds, don't have to be pretty, but make damn sure they have good penetration.
I don't think the rear springs are too stiff. I have it sitting on the ground and when I jump into the bed (all whopping 125lbs. of me) the back end squats down about 1", but we'll see how it feels when it actually comes to driving it on the road... and I don't mean to brag, I'm far from an expert welder, but I'm pretty confident in my welds. thanks for the advice!
I actually did spend a few hours cleaning the garage yesterday and today, didn't clean that back bay though, sorry broseph.
this is mine idk im kinda over the trucks now if anyone likes it throw a price cuz i might consider selling it I still love it and my best advise is to get the wheel base right and not have the fucken back tires a mile behind the bed and not to have the front end to close.. it has to be proportioned just right or it will look like shit trust me ive seen a lot of trucks that are wack
Are you going to leave the spring hanger like that, with two mounting holes hanging below the frame? And are you done welding your boxing plate in the rear? Looks to be just tach welded in places. Looks like you have a lot of ambition, just don't build something that could kill someone if it fails.
glad to see you got a progress thread going! great work so far. after seeing this makes me want to get going on mine again, and get a thread going as well. keep up the good work!
Looks good, beef up the area around the notch in the frame some more, it looks a little scary to me. Will your door open with those headers? Looks like it will hit in the pics.
