Been driving my old street race/g***er style '40 a lot recently, decided to try something new over the weekend... put wide whites and changed the front spring on Saturday. Good friend Steve Philps (Stevezrodz here on the HAMB) said
    "It needs skirts"
When I got to our workshop on Sunday morning he'd already started making them! Switched the radiused rear fenders for the stockers, now with skirts, and lowered the back end Sunday. Then put the hood back on. Always liked the car before, but I'm digging the new look!
Big thanks to Steve, and also to Kerry here at LimeWorks, and of course Limey Steve for help with sorting out the bugs - a 7" drop makes a big difference!
    Cheers

Looks great as a custom, but in g***er trim it's my favorite '40 sedan ever.

Does it handle a lot better now?

I like the former version much better. If you are going to leave it like that permanently at least loose the skirts.

I'm impressed. It looks great! I think it's cool when modifications are done conservatively, so a car isn't doomed for the same look because of previous work. This car looks great as a g***er and custom. Steve was right, she really needed the skirts.

Looks good. I agree with Steve, the skirts pull the look together. I am not sure if I prefer either look over the other. Too different of a look to really compare. I like it. Looks like it needs to be lower in the front and a bumper. The bumper might actually make it look lower without taking away from the tail dragging stance. What did you do with the pipe rear bumper? I was half expecting to see billet wheels, pastel paint job, LS motor and you with a gold chain and medallion. Especially knowing how much you loved the blue street rod you were working on. :D:D

    Thanks mate!

You win - funniest post of the day!

Corners better, rides a little firm, getting used to bias plys again!

Interior? in a weekend? tough crowd! I needed a little time to relax, so I waited 'til last night to completely re upholster the interior.
(Threw a mexican blanket over the overstuffed barcalounger bench seat). Still no carpet, door panels or quarter panels and only 1/2 a dash!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Fun to see what diffrence can be made to a car in a few hours, with a few good mates!

I like it much better with the skirts and the hood on, I'm not very fond of the nose-up "g***er" look unless the car is being seriously raced. I could even see more rake toward the rear.

    It's like having a full-scale AMT 3 in 1 39/40 Ford sedan kit!

Yeah, I felt like a bit of a poser in a street race/g***er style car that doesn't go as fast as it looks like it should. It's a daily right now (30 miles each way) so can't be too radical.

It is so ... Probably won't be at the Rumble.

Yeah! Maybe next week I'll find some stock hubcaps!:D

It's hard to screw up the looks of a Forty Ford, period. I like the hood. Which, of course, is an Old Man's view --- who has had 'em both ways. Without one, you need a double throw down, full race flattie. Didn't think I would like one with skirts but, now that I've seen them on a yaller car, l can see how it would grow on you. And for those who don't have forties and are rappin' you, I guess you know what to tell 'em. It's your car and being the owner you get the kicks.

I prefer the Kustom look too , as was said you need the big bollock motor to back up the g***er stance. 40's make great Kustoms , draggin *** looks killer .Not bad for a few hours of fun & its still on the road, like the kids did it in the 40's they needed their ride to get to school on Monday , as Craig needed his wheels for work. I'm diggin it.

I like the before version... I have pics of it from somewhere. Bakersfield I believe.

to me yellow isn't a good color for a custom.

Craig, Now you gotta chop it to complete the look. Kinda hard to go back to the nosebleed look after that though. I have always digged that car. What are ya gonna do?
