Thoughts about a 62 ford falcon

    I always liked them because like '32 to '52 Fords, damn near every thing across the '63 to '73 Ford line can be swapped into them as bolt ons.
    Below is my '61 with a 302/toploader/ 9 inch drive train, '66 GT Mustang front end, '65 Falcon tint windshield, '62 doors with stainless trim and a complete '63 Sprint interior, all bolt on drop ins.
    An original six with that pitiful 2 speed Fodomatic couldn't pull the hat off your head but it all it takes is some parts scrounging and wrenching to turn them into a nice little road rocket sleeper.

    Forgot to mention earlier, the classic Granada disc brake swap works well with these cars; basically the Granada spindle and everything attached will bolt right up. There's lots of information about the swap if you google it. Only bad thing is that the Granada spindle is actually a bit taller, I forget by how much, but it's a noticeable lift.

    I love the lil' falcons (60-63), they're one of my favorite cars...I'm just too big to drive one.

    Comet was Mercury's answer for the Falcon. They share a lot of parts. Only real difference is body panels. Same subframe.. suspension.. etc.

    I love Falcons and Comets but being over 6' tall....the seat has to be moved back so I don't have a stg wheel in my chest.

    that's what i like about bein 5'9". don't have to worry about anyone else drivin my falcon!! not to rub it in tho!! :D

    if you want to keep up or stay ahead of traffic, go with the 200six if you go with a six-banger. plenty of power. with the 2spd i've been gettin 18mpg, with my foot in it every now and then. with a stick it'll be better. can't beat them for a daily driver if 5'10" or under!!! :cool:

    im 6'1, and never had a problem driving it when it was a 200-c4.. I didnt feel cramped at all

    lol,, thats the way i got it.. I did pull the 13" wheel off and put a 16" grant wheel on, but no pix of the new wheel..

    When I was 16, 6' & 150 lbs, it was a good fit.....now @ 6'7" 300lbs, not so good.

    Still, these are some sweet little cars....
     
  20. I think they're cool. The weesner one "orchid flake" rules. My dad's first car was a 62 falcon. He's half assed looking for a decent driver if anyone knows of one in the Cleveland area.

    And it was supposed to be a compact Edsel, obviously plans changed!

    I love my 64, but even though the "Merc-O-Matic" is about the coolest name ever for a transmission, I'm looking for a c4.

    I'm 6'2" and fit in one very nicely back in the 1960's. You could stuff a 289 in it with maybe a four speed and call it good. Beef up the front springs and shocks plus rear end. Switch from vacumn wipers to electric and it's a chick magnet.
    Done with that and still need more you could run a straight axle in front with bigger tires than what you would think.

    if i had a defrost and wipers my 62 falcon wagon could easily be a daily driver. I drive it to work all the time during the dryer months.. once i get the wipers fixed it will be more often
     
  28. i had a 62 falcon, 170 3 speed, between my dad and i we put 130000 miles on it i saw the clock turn over twice, i also had a 63 ranchero , ther is a cool thread on here falcons done right. lots of photos makes me wish i still had mine

    I'll throw my 63 Falcon Sprint in the mix, great fun car that gets a lot of comments from everyone. Simple, 260 ci V8, C4 converted, CA black plate car that I found in AZ.... this is how I found it.. didn't know at the time the full plan, but I had some things in mind...

    Be still my beating heart---a '63ish Ranchero that is clean and crisp and generally unmolested would be a real prize.
