my thoughts exactly ....... very well said

  2. i will not respond 2 you directly because i have respect for reid

  3. radio bob cussed me out in front of my 13 year old because i didn't see him trying to stop traffic on van nuys blvd (he is not D.O.T. or a fucking cop to be stopping traffic on the street!) he says i almost ran him over (what the fuck was that douchebag doing standing out the street anyways) then he tells me that he is getting paid for controling traffic. I called him out for cussing me out infront of my kid and he just looked at me with a stupid smile. i was able to keep my cool and just walked away didn't want it to be the first brawl on the "bull"

Your welcome, it's my pleasure to take some pics. It's also nice to see other photographers out there, let's see those pics as well or links to them. Nice meeting you in person, thanks for putting some order in and around the Rydell parking lot area. Having been to 3 of these cruise nights now, I can definitely notice more organization in the way your keeping people and parked cars safe within the lot. Too bad you don't have two way hand held radios to communicate amongst each other. That way everybody is on the same page. In addition, having stood out by that exit from the Rydell parking lot and seeing the obstructions first hand that face those leaving the parking lot ( i.e. roach coach, parked vehicles, spectators), I for one believe that any traffic control is welcomed. I know that your risking your own skin in doing so, but I believe that for the most part it is not only welcomed but necessary to avoid someone getting hit as they leave the parking lot. Look forward to future cruise nights.

Reid, did Navymailman or Tuske427 post pics somewhere? I must have missed them if they were here. Is there any way you can get them to the Van Nuys Cruising Assoc. website so there can be a central place for people to see them?

Also, whoever does your traffic control is doing a great job (his arms must be tired).
I'm not sure who Radio Bob is, but I would like to shake his hand! The haters should just stay home with their TV remotes! There is no room for haters here! The traffic control guys are keeping our cars in one piece and keeping people from getting hurt. I couldn't even imagine trying to exit that lot without the help.

Keep up the good work, your efforts are appreciate by some.
Sorry I had to leave early (9:00pm) and couldn't stay and help with the clean up. I have to get up at 5:00am in the morning for work, and I was really dragging...(still Jetlag from D.C.)

See you on Oct 14 or before on 9/19 at Route 66 in Canyon Country.

TRAFFIC CONTROL IS NO EASY THING... BELIEVE ME...

BUT SOME PEOPLE (I WONT MENTION NAMES) NEED TO HAVE TACT WHEN DOING SO...

YOU CANT JUST START CUSSIN CRUISERS OUT... (IVE SEEN IT HAPPEN)....

MAYBE PEOPLE DOING TRAFFIC CONTROL SHOULD WEAR THE BRIGHT GREEN VEST'S IF THEY WANT TO STOP TRAFFIC...

THERES WAYS OF DOING THIS WITHOUT HAVING TO GET INTO PEOPLES FACES...

I DO TRAFFIC CONTROL AND I HAVENT HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANYONE... AND YEA I'VE HAD TO BE FIRM WITH SOME PEOPLE... BUT NEVER ANY DISRESPECT...

MAYBE I JUST HAVE A MEAN OL UGLY MUG AND PEOPLE DONT WANT TO GET INTO IT WITH ME.... (hahaha!)

    BUT LIKE I WAS SAYING...

SOME PEOPLE SHOULD GO ABOUT DOING THINGS IN A MORE TACTFUL MANOR.

THATS ALL I GOTTA SAY ABOUT THAT.

elrobo pretty much hit the nail on the head. Traffic control is definitely a necessary thing, otherwise there will be all kinds of accidents as people are trying to exit the lot.

It's a thankless job though, and you catch all kinds of shit from douchebags when you stop letting cars in because the lot is full, so it's probably not the right job for people that don't have a the patience of a Buddhist monk...

Traffic control?!? Parking lot duty?!? Are you guys hearing yourselves? Haha. It's Van Nuys fucking Boulevard. We ALL brought it back to CRUISE the damn thing. Not make a spectacle out of it and argue about whos doing the best job playing traffic cop for a parking lot. Look, I appreciate the effort from Reid and the others to get this thing organized. I was really thankful for the lot the first go around. It got people organized and brought some attention to what we were doing. But honestly, by the second or third time around, it was just a distraction from the real point of all this. Big burger trucks, merch, car culture camera crews, ins and outs, do's and don'ts, wannabe civilian traffic cops with attitudes, etc. Tell me...was ANY of this part of Van Nuys Boulevard in its hayday?

I have a great deal of admiration for Reid and for the way he and others quarterbacked this thing from an early stage. I will continue to thank and support him. But I will say this. I'm really disappointed in the way some of you guys handled Miguel's complaint. Saying things like "how dare he criticize Radio Bob" without even knowing the full story. So a guy can be a total asshole to cruisers, but as long as he's self-policing the driveway he can do no wrong? Nice. And for mzchevelle to actually suggest that Miguel "stay home with his tv remote". Seriously? Y'all have short memories. Miguel has been OUT ON THE BOULEVARD since day 1 AND he has stayed later than alot of you to clean up YOUR shit from the parking lot he stayed out of most of the night to..ya know...CRUISE.

There's no place for micro-managing the cruise by a handfull of overzealous volunteers. Chill out. Get rid of the bullshit. And cruise.

See you guys on the Boulevard.

No worries on cleanup...the Mopar boys really jumped in and helped out
along with the usual suspects LOL:eek: Not to forget ROBERT...oops...
who is ALWAYS there...hope the car is better.

  14. Ya know? I go to cruise. NOT park my ass in a stupid lawn chair like I saw there. You know who you are, posers. I was in the lot I think for about an hour due to a shifter linkage problem but am usually out cruising or at jack in the box or the ranch house or....... get the idea? But I do go back at the end of the night to help clean up because you PIGS can't put garbage in the garbage cans. If we didn't HANG in the parking lot so much we wouldn't need traffic control.

All I know is I was there for the first and it looks like it's now even better! Regarding a traffic cop with a hot-head and yelling out swear words, maybe time for a new, better person to do that "job."

i now think that closing the lot IS a good idea...

but since thats not the case... there needs to be SOME kind of order there...

you've been there and you know how the lot is... no one is trying to be a "traffic cop" .... i know im not... but its just to keep the entrance and exit from jamming up... you just need the right people that know how to do it correctly and not make things worst by blocking traffic and cussing people out.

i volunteer to help out with the entrance because i thought it sucked to have Reid standing there all night and not being able to enjoy OUR cruise that WE ALL put together...

Word elrobo. I hear ya bro. And I sincerely thank you for all that you've done with the flyer as well. That lot can get very jammed up, I agree. But the real reason for the jam two cruises ago was that dumbass camera crew stopping everyone at the entrance for web interviews. LAME. Not to mention all the spectators blocking the entrance to get at the burger truck. And then all the other spectators blocking that narrow exit onto Van Nuys. I had to crawl through there. Took me 10 minutes to get 10 feet. And it wasnt the fault of cruisers on the boulevard not letting cars out. Not at all! It was the fact that the damn lot became a spectacle. Solution: get rid of the damn thing and let us CRUISE like we're supposed to. Again, I challenge anyone to justify all this extra crap associated with the cruise on the basis of bringing back what used to be. It can't be done because none of this parking lot spectacle volunteer nonsense ever played a part in making Van Nuys what it was. It was about the cars ON the boulevard. And that's what it should be about now. Period.

  21. GEEZ! Does anybody take pictures at this thing? Or do you guys just wait to get on here and TALK about it?

  22. I keep going back page after page and "BLAH BLAH BLAH". CHAIRS this, parking, that, trash, etc yada yada,yada...One guy took some pic's,Rustbucket! I guess i'll have to go there myself and get some pic's....

    [I
What made cruising Van Nuys what it was was a great many things that took decades to develop, but, only took a decade to bring it to an end.

To understand what it was like, you really had to be there.

The better question is what brought it to an end. The list is a long one, but, it can be summed up. The boulevard became an uncontrollable nightmare of bumper to bumper traffic, noise, fights, street racing, vandalism, and assorted other trouble
that brought that part of the valley to a complete and utter standstill.

In the late 60s the boulevard reached it's zenith. And, yes people gathered in every available parking lot or space along the boulevard, drinking, getting high, partying,
making noise etc. We were kids, and like most teenagers we were self-absorbed and could give a rats ass about others, especially adults and authorities of any kind.

The boulevard wasn't just about cruising, but, also hangin' with your pals, talking cars, bench racing, girls, and looking for parties beyond the one you were having on the street. So, I would say there are plenty of things to worry about in terms of having this thing continue, not the least of which are the general bad manners, cockiness, and some down right pricks that always manage to show up at just about everything worth doing, and fuck it up. We had them then, and we got 'em
    now.

Wednesday, I was at the Rydell lot until about dark, policed my own trash, left the lot (no problems what-so-ever) with the idea in mind to cruise, but, also to take a good look at what was going on. The Ralphs parking lot/ 4& 20 Pies was bursting with people cars, spectators, families, animals, and plenty of cars & lawn chairs blocking the driveways, snarling traffic for those who shop at Ralphs.

It reminded me of just how out of control it used to get, and what led to it's demise.

Before this thread gets shut down or someone gets the boot from the moderators, let me jump in here...and I will do this without slamming anyone...At least I'll try...
First...When I first posted the return of cruising, there was no lot...The original idea was for people to meet at Ralphs and then start cruising...Two days before the first cruise I was offered the Rydell lot...And I really think without it the results would have been quite different...At the first cruise, there was NO ONE directing anything...A total free for all with blocked aisles and cars in every direction. Radio Bob, who I didn't even know until that night, took it upon himself to start directing the exit to help in avoiding accidents. And he has come back every month to continue that...No pay...He has also taken care of my wife when she was having issues at the other end of the lot when I was busy handling other situations...Some people have made issue of "policing of the lot". After the first cruise, Chip from Rydell called me to complain about the trash left behind and how it needed to be more organized ie: get some control of the situation. I have done everything asked of me by Rydell, and they are quite pleased. The big problem now is actually Ralphs. People have literally over run that lot and disrupted business there. There was actually a bicycle cop directing traffic to get out of the Ralphs lot, taking him off his beat and the Mobil station was actually shut down because customers could not get in. We have had the businesses welcoming us, but things of this sort will lead to merchant complaints and spell the end once more. Not to mention the trash at Ralphs. We do not have permission to be there, and there is a one hour limit on parking for customers. We have been told by the police one of the reasons that they HAVE NOT hassled us is due to the fact that we ARE policing ourselves and as long as we do that, they will leave us alone. Also, we now have complaints from the Lexus dealer and some other dealers complaining of the trash left behind by the spectators along the sidewalk. Granted, we cannot control everything (WE being ALL cruisers). And I don't think the spectators are HAMBers..And the spectators are just like the old days...Sloppy!
I see some of you younger guys, who were in diapers or not even thought of yet talking about how there were no lots back in the day...Wrong...There were many lots...Arby's was at Sherman Way,the biker lot, the vans were across from Heads N Highs, the low riders were down at June Ellyns Donuts, the racers were at Jack in the Box and Bob's Jr. (now Arbys) and the Bank of America lot at Haynes street( the largest and most crowded). Only back then we didn't have permission.. Ten minutes to get out of a lot because of traffic and spectators? Thats pretty good...Ask Groucho how it was getting out of B of A on a Wednesday night 30 some years ago...And we were getting chased out by the cops all the time too...The LAPD had a whole division just to fuck with people on the boulevard. They'd pull you over just for the paint job on your car...Ask Bash about that....So how much do you really want it like the good old days? Right now we've got it better than it ever was...As long as we don't screw it up...Remember...There was no organization then (other than ACCVN and they tried)and we all know the outcome of that!
The lot is not going to be around forever... We have been trying to get people to get out of the lot and create new hang outs since the 2nd cruise....Whether it be another lot or parked in a given spot along the street every month...I saw a group of Cobra roadsters and a group of F100's parked along the street...Thats the old days without the hassle...
Cruising is fine, eating at a restraunt or Ralphs deli and then leaving is fine...Don't wear out your welcome.
I have a great idea for those who just can't stand the lot....Don't go there...Like I said, create your own hang out. Nobody is forcing you to go there. But don't bash the people that are working their butts off trying to make others happy...I seem to see 99% of the people on the lot with a big smile on their face. So we must be doing something right...
You are right, though, this is about cruising, but if you wanna sit, go ahead. There were nights I went to B of A and just hung out, didn't cruise...Had more fun on the sidelines...Make of it what you want and have a good time....
Remember...Cruise,cruise, eat, cruise, piss, cruise, cruise....

Navy mailman took some pics too, look a few pages back.

  28. im not bashing your people reid just bob, working his butt off or not there was no need for radio bob to cuss me out..(especially in front of my kid as I was on van nuys blvd NOT YOUR LOT!) so if your going to have that disrespectfull fuck help you out in lot believe me im not the first or the last person to have a problem with him and i still don't understand why he thinks he could stand out in the street stopping traffic makes no sense. if the people can't see if there is traffic coming as they pull out the lot maybe the person should let them know when the street is clear to exit. not stand out in traffic and stop traffic like if your some kind of officer of the law.

I have no issue with you or your lot in the past i expressed how thankfull i was of all the hard work you have done to make this event in the rydell lot happen and the time you took talking to buinesses along the blvd.i know what i've done to help out with making this event happen and im not going to sit here and type it out. from the biggining i said that i thought the streets best place to park and that the ralphs parking lot was not a good idea but you guys went along with it anyways as it was printed on the first flier. now its becoming a issue i tried talking to people telling them not to park in front of the ralphs but they just looked at me like who the fuck is this guy(and guess what they are right who the fuck am i to tell them what to do) that why i said im only looking out for me and my family(and belive me its a big ass family).i haven't been in the rydell lot in the last two cruises because i have more fun out on the streets. but hey you need a hand with anything let me know

  29. Hey, Bad Bob.....want pics? Bring a camera:eek:

  30. I call it like I see it. There was fresh food trash in the lot. More then the Rydell people could leave behind. HAMBER or not a pig is a pig. Throw your trash away. Or take it with you. Simple as that.
