i commend you on your work ! i had one of these cabs i picked up on a farm here in iowa a few years back ! i'm a ford guy at heart but the looks of the 34 chevy cab are nice ! i hung onto it for a few years before deciding i had enough other projects that needed atention first , and the thought of all that wood and lack of replacement metal got the better of me and i sold it off to fund other projects ! good luck and keep updates posted !

  2. I'm jumping ahead here 'cause I just took some fresh pics to try and figure out how long to make the bed. Don't mind the plywood and conduit ( can't not think of Bob Bleed every time that word comes up!) bedsides....

Unfortunately, I am beginning to question my front end placement. It seems to far forward to me. So, I guess I need to stare at it for a while.

  3. After walking around it for a day and staring at some profile shots, I've added 6" to the bedsides for a total of 4'6". I think I like it. I have an original bed for a '35 that is stock length but beat to hell. But, with some strategic cutting I think I can get rid of a lot of the bad. I think a couple of the original stake pockets can be saved and I'll replace the other two with the new ones shown in the mockup. I should probably just start fresh, but I kinda' wanted to use as much original stuff as possible. Comments are welcome, unless they are mean  (I'm sensitive :))

The crossmember and steering setup are impressive. What rear are you using?

  6. Hey, thanks guys. The rear is out of a '39 Ford deluxe. I converted it to open drive with one of Hot Rod Works kits. The spring is '27 T.

  7. Though I plan on running a full hood, I want to have the option to go without. The stock radiator support ( first pic) in my opinion, did not look very good from the side, so I made a new front support that mounts to the original location and lengthened some Model A support rods. Looks much better to me.

  8. A couple of posts ago I mentioned my trouble with the pedal setup. I ended up redoing it after I got a longer pushrod. I am much happier with the pedal placement now. It's kinda' tight in there (said the Bishop to the showgirl),and I still have to figure out a clutch linkage, but I think it will work.

  9. Barn Find Bandwagon shot...

I've been working on the body framing again. Here are the beginnings of a "B" pillar. Also shown is one of the original brackets that will tie the top to the cab corners.

For what it's worth, All of the wood shown at the back of the cab will be replaced with steel tubing of the same, or close to the same size as the original pieces. it is just there for mockup purposes.

  11. I cut up a Model A bar, rolled it through my roller a few times to clear the grille, and mounted up some '30 A lights that I converted to sealed beam. Then came the shock mounts. I wanted to use some Armstrong levers that I have, but the frame is just too wide at the front so tubes it is.

  12. Tiny update:

I made this bracket to hang on a couple of the tailshaft bolts to mount my e- brake handle. I believe the handle is from a '35 Chevy p***enger car. I was trying to get it in a stock appearing location.

    Safety First!

The "little bit longer" bed really helped the proportions. I love this build, great work. Full hood is killer too....

Nicely proportioned truck and a great build - the longer bed really makes it look "all together" ... it's also great that you are scoring some pretty good stuff for the build as well. That just makes makes a build all the more satisfying in my book.

  20. Hey thanks everyone! Your words are very encouraging. I hope to have an update by the end of the weekend if I can quit picking at my "T" roadster every time I walk by it.

your truck is looking really good. And the thought that you put into everything. Well done. THAT CHEVY NEEDED YOU :)
As for your pictures. If you reduce your picture quality setting to it's lowest setting in your camera, you should be able to load more pics at a time. And quicker...John

P.S. You should be called patience.

  24. Ya'll are too kind.
John, I'll try the lower resolution settings. I know about as much about taking pictures as I do about computers (which isn't much :).)

I broke out the Ospho for some more rust abatement ( I'm scurred to get the flat panels blasted.) I'll need to clearance this piece (lower cab panel) for the driveshaft and torque arm.

I also made some new pieces for the termites to chew on ( and to keep the doors closed ( I really like parentheses...))

I will keep updating the file I sent to you so that when your done (like anyone is ever done) I will sent it to you. My next trip to KC I want to swing by and check out your truck. When I was up your way last weekend to pick my metal brake up I also bought a nice english wheel for 300 bucks. Keep updating and I will do the same. Thanks Keith

You have my number, anytime Mr.

Thanks rob, or should I say Mr. Model A ,or A's :)

  29. Here are some recent shots to show that I have not been slacking. I tore the roof off the ****a' to have it blasted and start the rust repairs on the other header.
